Car seat Question

Britax seats are known for having shorter shell and they are outgrown height wise before many other seats out there. So if someone plans to extended rearface, then I'd avoid Britax seats.

My DD1 would have outgrown a Britax months ago (she's 28 months). She's still RFing and we specifically did not get a Britax seat for that reason.

I think we have a ways to go because my daughter is built like me - all legs, no torso. It also might not be an issue for shorter kids. I have friends who safely RFed to 3.5 years in Britax seats. All kids are built differently.

ITA. My youngest RFed in his Marathon until he was 3.5 yrs old.

I like the britax seats for easy latching and comfort. However, they have no cup holder and are HUGE!!!!
Graco seats I think are the best, wish I would have gotten one for my van now. :)

Ive tried many, many, many carseats.. you can say Im a bit obsessed with carseats (not really I just aren't afraid to change if needed). Right now I have

My 7yo in a 5pt harness Frontier FF combination (FFing to booster). This seat lasts FOREVER but is only FF so not good for a older child who has outgrown RFing carseats. I do love it though. My oldest is a figgets a lot in the car and a booster just isn't safe for her, she moves the seatbelt around when in one. My oldest loves this seat!
My 5yo in a 5 pt harness Natalius. I hate, hate, hate this carseat. It was suppose to be replaced but I realized my son's carseat was a month from expiring and replaced his instead. This is a FF combination (FF to booster) but the buckle sticks no matter what we do. Its being recalled so I have to call the manufacture for the new buckle for it. Honestly, when we have the funds Im getting a frontier for my daughter.
My 3yo is RFing in a Radian. Love this carseat. By far my favorite. Its pricey but so worth it! He actually wants to go on car rides, which is unusual since he hates sitting still, just because he loves this seat so much.
My 16 mo in a Graco MyRide, RFing. Im 50/50 on this seat. Im not a fan, buckle issues again. Also, the bigger my baby gets the more uncomfortable she seems to get. However its easy to install and worked well in the seat combination we had in the back of the van when the baby was born so it worked for us. She is 3rd in line for a new seat. I have to get the baby a seat first, then my 2nd daughter then her. Hopefully before we move in November everyone will be happy in their carseats.

Im expecting in Sept. We don't know if we will just go straight to a Radian or get a bucket. We are moving to where its extremely cold so I was thinking it would be nice not to have to get a newborn into a carseat in the car when its like 0 degrees outside. If we get a bucket we will probably get a Keyfit 30.

BTW I LOVE that you are concerned for your grandchildren safety! My inlaws and father aren't allowed to transport the children anywhere because they don't see a need for carseats. My FIL told me I could give them to him if I wanted but he refused to use them. I love it when Grandparents get themselves informed and do whats best for their grandchildren.

We have our 2 year old twins RF in the Radian as well, love it. I did a ton of research before deciding on it. We had them in the Keyfit 30s when they were babies, soo much easier going places with them in it, especially if you get a stroller that they latch right into.

One of the reason we are debating it is because when we had buckets (first three) they NEVER left the car. I babywear and Ive never had multiples (Id love them but Ive never been blessed with them) so Id just take the baby and put them in a carrier then off we would go. This time though Im thinking of being able to buckle them up then wrapping a blanket around for warmth would be good in freezing weather. Ive never lived where it snowed a lot so I don't know how much we will actually use a bucket. Its hard to know what we will use when we have never been in a cold environment before.

All of you are such a wealth of information. Thanks again. We have been looking at the Evenflo Symphony DLX. DS and DDIL are on board with it, but I was wondering if any of you have any experience with this one. The reviews we have read seem to be good. DDIL has a Britax in her car. I am not sure of the model, but she loves it. DS has a Graco and he loves his too. They are both fairly new, because the DGS has just come out of the infant seat.

Thanks again everyone!!

I don't know what graco they have but have them check for a recall. There is a HUGE recall on graco carseats right now, millions spanning over the last 5 years have a recall on them right now.

DS has already checked and requested a new "buckle". I believe that is what it is called. He took care of that immediately. Thank you!

I requested the buckle the day it was announced and still nothing. The nautilus' that we have are secondary seats anyway and i wouldn't recommend them before the recall they just don't fit the kids well and the fabrics aren't nice like the Britax.

I know I'm replying late, but wanted to give my 2cents! We bought the following carseat for our son who turned two on the journey home from our last Disney roadtrip in September. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Cosco-Scenera-Convertible-Car-Seat-Renaissance/16932760?action=product_interest&action_type=title&placement_id=irs_top&strategy=PWVAV&visitor_id=68339366708&category=0%3A5427%3A91365%3A1101435&client_guid=0dfe9a1c-65af-4243-9ab0-59aeccdcd0d5&config_id=2&parent_item_id=21128087&guid=479aaf12-b049-4909-8e60-9e0bfece7eb2&bucket_id=irsbucket012&findingMethod=p13n

He's small for his age, so he was still in the rear-facing infant seat until the week we left. The new one fit perfectly in the middle of the back row of our vehicle with our 12 year old and 8 year old sitting on either side. We were able to have him rear-facing for the trip down, and forward-facing for the return trip. I liked this one because it wasn't so wide that it cut into the other kids' seat space.

When doing our research on new carseats, DH kept telling me he had seen a less expensive one that looks just like the model I picked out. Turns out, he almost came home with a convertible BOOSTER seat, which can look very similar to some of the carseats. Even after being a parent for 18 years, even he almost picked a seat that was not appropriate for our toddler because he was focusing on price and failed to notice it was for 30+lbs and had no harness! The boosters are meant for bigger older kids. So, be careful to pick a carseat based on weight and height of the child :)

A friend of mine has the Evenflo Symphony seat and really likes it. The only problem is that it has a rear-facing height limit of 36 inches, so she ended up buying a Radian to keep her DD rear-facing. The good thing is that she has a younger child that will be able to still use the seat.

The specifications on the website show 19" - 37" rear facing. Our little guy is 14 months old and still pretty tiny, so I think he should be able to use it for a while. I know it also converts to forward facing for later and also becomes a booster which I like. If for some reason he really spurts up in height, we would just have to get a different seat. I really don't expect that to happen, but who knows. I know sometimes they surprise you! Thanks for the info!
