What if we have an 8 month old? I know on Disney Transportation within the parks that car seats probably are not allowed...however what about on Magical Express?
Is this safe without a car seat? I would feel so guilty if something happened! (the mom in me)
I need opinions/advice.
Thanks!

As the sticky at the top of this pages states, car seats are not allowed on ME, you have to stow them underneath the bus.

There aren't any seat belts, so a child is no safer in a car seat than they would be in the parents arms. If anything, a child in an unrestrained car seat becomes even more of a projectile than a lap baby in an accident.

A child in a childseat buckled in and strapped down is a heck of a lot safer than sitting in the laps of a parent or without a seatbelt.

While this is TOTALLY true, the ME busses have no way to secure a child seat.

oh, that makes sense. thanks so much! i didn't realize the no seat belt thing....no point in a car seat then....

We stayed on-site when our boys were 18 mos. and 4 yrs. Our 4 y.o whispered to me while riding the bus back from MK, "Mommy, we don't have our buckles on." I did feel really guilty and all I could say was that on buses there are no buckles. That's one of the many reasons we like to stay off-site and rent a car. Imagine the Disney cruise line buses going all the way to Port Canaveral with so many unrestrained children and adults too. I've worked in a trauma center for 16 yrs. so this just makes me cringe! :sad2:

Personally, I'm fine with the no-car-seat-thing on buses (and more importantly, so is my wife, a Mom and a board-certified pediatrician).

BUT, if YOU are concerned about it, and as a parent you have every right to be, then your ONLY option is to rent a car at the airport and then drive not only from there to your resort but also from your resort to the parks.

Since there are no seatbelts on DME or on Disney Transport, skipping only DME won't help you because you'd still be "stuck" with Disney Transport buses that you can't use a carseat on.

In other words, if you choose to skip DME because of the carseat issue, then rent a car and skip the Disney Transport buses, also.
