Hi, We sail in 3 weeks for our cruise and will have a 6month old with us. We will be going to Nachi Cocum for the day in Cozumel. Does anyone know how long of a drive it will be to Nachi and did you bring a long a car seat as well if you had an infant along. We weren't planning to bring a car seat along on the cruise originally, but now I am reconsidering since we will have to take a van to Nachi Cocum ( there will be a total of 7 of us) Any thoughts? I would feel bad if something happened and we didn't have a car seat.

Thanks,

Vicki

Not all vehicles (particularlly taxis and tour vans) outside the U.S. and Canada have seat belts. I'd say most, but I never counted to prove that. So not sure a car seat would do you much good.

our taxi van leaving the port in Cozumel was clean with seat belts, however the taxi van on our return trip to the Port did not. In fact the seats were a bit suspect to say the least.

We always bring our car seat for any kids 5 and under. We've never had a car or taxi that didn't have a seat belt.

Yikes, this is something I hadn't thought of yet! We're cruising in December, and my DD will be 8 months old. I'm too paranoid to let her ride without a car seat.

We didn't cruise until dd was 28mo but that first one we opted to either participate in cruise excursions w/ the cruise line (on large buses...no seat belts or car seats) or just walk around the port area.

We did have the car seat with us on the ship, but I couldn't see hauling it to the beach or other excursion w/o storage while we were there!

The ride to Nachi Cocum is about 15 minutes, mostly on a 2-lane undivided road. Traffic is usually light and consists mostly of scooters, rental jeeps and other taxis. Our taxis usually have seat belts but we've never seen the driver use one. Only you can decide what level of risk you are comfortable in taking with your baby. Unlike the US, the laws in Mexico aren't going to give you any guidance. :sad2:
