Car seat on flight?

We just got back from Disneyland last night with my 6 month old and having her carseat on the plane was so nice. Of course, she would need one anyway since she could never sit in the seat herself since she's so small, but compared to having her as a lap child, the carseat was great. There were 2 other kids on our flight, one was 2 and the other was 4 and the 2 year old sat in his carseat the whole flight from Orange County, CA to Baltimore, only getting up during the stop in Phoenix. His brother, who was not in a carseat, was up and down the whole flight. Of course, he was sitting with grandma while the little one was with the mom, so I'm sure that had something to do with it (my mom would let my daughter do whatever she wanted on the plane at that age I'm sure). It's a great place for them to be able to play and sit safely during the flight though, so we'll still be using ours until my daughter reaches 40 pounds (and since she's 16 pounds now, we've got a long way to go).

Do you just tuck the tether strap behind the seat on the airplane or do I have to remove it?

What about the stroller; I assume we check that. Are there any recommendations about how to best do that so that it doesn't get damaged?

You can tuck the tether away or remove it if that's an option. Just use the aircraft seatbelt to secure the carseat.

You can gate check the stroller when you check in for your flight. Just let the airline personnel know that you are gate-checking your stroller and they will give you a tag to put on it. Wheel it right down the jetway, fold and secure it (a bungee cord works well if you're afraid it will come unfolded during the flight) and leave it right by the airplane door. They will load it in the baggage compartment just before departure and it will be placed back on the jetway for you after you arrive at your destination (and at your layover airport as well, unless you specify otherwise).

What an amazing thing! I had no idea there was such an option, thank you! How handy!

We travelled with my DD to Florida once before by air, and I had an umbroller for her; I can't for the life of me remember how we got it home....we bought it in Florida, I know that....but maybe my ILs brought it home for us in the spring, I don't remember.
