Car Rentals high...when?

I'm looking for car rentals for June and they are running about $100 MORE than they did for the same time last year. But then I see that some people are getting great rates for March and April.

Is it typical for rates to fall in the weeks before??? I'd really like a lower rate.

We were planning on driving but I got a great airfare but these car rental prices are killing me.

Car rental prices are as unpredictable as plane fares. The main difference with car rentals is that you do not have to actually pay when you make your reservation. So we always look around and book the best rate, then we check back regularly to see if it has gone down. If yes, we cancel and rebook. If it goes up, we are locked into the original rate.
