We are flying into LAX and was wondering which car rental companies are on site at the airport if any??? And if not onsite how good is the transportation bewtween the airport and car rental lot???
Any reccomendations on which company is best at LAX??

NONE of the car rentals at LAX are on property.

They all have shuttles that run often, you will see the Avis and Hertz buses the most often, just because they are the biggest. I'd go with wherever you can get the best deal from any of the major companies. :)

I got a good rate through National for next August, $176.00 including taxes for a full size, 9 days, Emerald Aisle, DC discount with the $20.00 Entertainment coupon. I have been pleased with National at many other locations, hopefully LAX will be as good!

How wasthe process at National???? How long did it take to get from the airport to the rental lot and get your car??? Was is it quick or cumbersome??
How do the other rental car companies compare in getting you from the airport to their rental lot??

We have used Dollar, Thrifty, and National at LAX and National was by far the easiest. We do have Emerald Club so we used Emerald Aisle. It took longer to install the car seat and get the car loaded, than it did to actually check out of the lot.

Thrifty was cheap but it was a pain. They're tucked away on a side street.

Dollar, even though we used their Fastlane service, still took forever to get through the line and I was annoyed at them trying to get me to upgrade my rental and sell me extra insurance....

National's rates are somewhat higher, but if you have a coupon or Disney Club rate, then it's pretty comparable.

We've never had a problem getting from the terminal to the rental lot, except once when they locked the airport drives due to a security scare last October.

From our experience though, none do a very good job getting you from the back of the line to the service desk once you get to the rental lot. Fast Pass ;) (Emeral Aisle, etc.) strongly advised. We used National EA last time and it went smoothly until we tried to drive off the lot and everyone went to lunch (took 20-25 minutes to get out!).

It's pretty easy to waste a bunch of time renting a car at LAX. If you don't need a car for your entire visit, you could be better off taking alternative transport between the airport and your hotel and renting near Disneyland (all major car companies rent within walking distance to Disneyland).

All cars are onsite at Burbank and Long Beach. At Burbank, you don't even have to cross a street.;)
