Hi!
DH and I are tentatively planning a trip next May to stay for a week at WL. We'll most likely be flying in and plan on using Disney transportation for the majority of our stay. After some thinking we have decided that we may want to rent a car one day to go to some outlet stores outside "the World" and maybe do some other things, so does anyone know how much that may cost and what the process is like? TIA

Go to the various web sites for the car rentals. Alamo is the official car rental for WDW and they have locations on WDW property.

We have used National Rental Car in the past for the same thing you are discussing. We pick it up at the airport when we arrive and then drop it off the next day at the WDW Dolphin.

There is no extra charge for the non-airport drop off. It usually runs us about $50. Which is comparable to taking a town car service.

We do this all the time. We usually rent a car upon arrival at Orlando airport for a weekend. We use one of the coupons in the Entertainment book and usually get 3 nights for 2 or 4 nights for 3 and it ends up to be little more than our transportation would have been to DW. We have used National, Alamo, Avis...most of the major rental companies have a return location on Disney property. Either through the car care center or one of the hotels. The nice thing about Florida is that there is no charge to drop the car off at a different location.

We then use the car to go to the grocery store, outlets and downtown disney, etc. We load up on resort restaurant reservations and use the car to get around because it is so much easier...any far reaching place where disney transfers may be a hassle, we drive to during those 3-4 days. The rest of the time we use Disney transfers to get to the parks.

We usually get away with renting a small economy-intermediate car for less than $100 for a long weekend. Price depends on time of year, how early you made the reservation, etc.
