We haven't rented a car during vacation in about 15 years, but this year we need to. Is there one company that is better to work with than others? I checked prices on Hertz, as I had a discount...yikes over $400 for a midsize car for a week !! Seems pricey, but I have no idea. Seems silly since it will be in hotel lot most of time, but we are heading to gulf coast and want to be able to move around at our convenience.
Thanks for help !!

try carrentalsavers.com. I find a lot of good deals there. For my last couple rentals , that site has found me the best price, and has all the coupons and codes too.

Join Alamo's insider club and they will send you discounts. I just rented at WDW for $9.08 a night, I don't know how they can even do it for that.

I generally always rent through Costco. Rates tend to drop the closer to your trip you get and you can cancel and rebook to get the lower rates with no penalties (as long as you don't prepay!). I find codes on Mousesavers.com and also join the rental car thread for the month of my trip on the transportation board here on the Dis. I've found the best deals using the above tips.

If you have. Costco membership or know someone that does, I find it is by far the cheapest. We rented a ford escape at the beginning of this month for 10 days for a total of 330. That was a great deal!

If you are not a Costco member you might want to go get a membership just to use the car rental for this trip. We are members of Costco and AAA. For our week at Disney we priced renting a full sized SUV ( we are 5 people with a wheelchair so we have to have the room). For the week AAA was going to be over 700. With Costco we will get the SUV for only 299 and that includes all the airport fees.

Last month I placed a bid on Priceline for mid size for two weeks at $9 a day and it was accepted.only thing is if you place bid and they accept, you can not cancel or change the reservation.
