Who do you rent cars from? We have always gone to dollar but was very disappointed with car last time and prices are getting very expensive!!

I looked at carhire3000 the last time I went. They were the cheapest then, not sure about now.

If you post your dates and size car I will have a look but Dollar are usually around the cheapest or Thrifty who are still Dollar.

What was wrong with the car, could it be a one off problem? I have rented about 25 times with Dollar, best company by far for us. Budget the worst, old cars and had to fight for free upgrades.
They all have good and bad cars, both ours for August are with Dollar/Thrifty group.

The car had a slow puncher so we were always in the garage pumping up
and it was older than usual.
Going next April 4 -23 :)

You should have called at one of the Dollar offices, they would have probably just swapped the car rather than you waiting for it repairing.

A bit early for next years rentals yet, what size car? whats best price you have seen? I will let you know if I see cheaper.

We have hired on many trips from either dollar or alamo - a few times if DH hasn't been happy with the car even for a minor reason he has swapped part way through the hols - they will do this no problem.

I always shop around. It's often cheaper to book through an agent rather than direct with the car rental company. I check USrentacar and UScarhire; also carrentals dot co dot uk is a good comparison site.

We like Alamo because you get to choose your own vehicle from those available in the size you've paid for.

Although recently we've been booking direct with Hertz (via Quidco for 10% cashback) because their prices have been pretty good and we love the Gold Canopy service. We head straight out of the airport, across the road into the parking garage, find our name on the board which tells us which parking space the car is in, find the car and off we go. No queuing at the car rental desk, no rep trying to sell upgrades or insurance etc. :thumbsup2

What made it more expensive was the fact dollar were quite pushy on selling what they called roadsafe at $5.99 per day which is supposed to cover mechanical breakdown similar to the AA .so is that worth taking on? Considering if you breakdown you have to pay for a Garage to come out.

We want an SUV medium size. Have not a price as yet. Just going on last Easter prices.

All the rental companies push Roadsafe/Roadside assist. Its how the agents make a wage. Its nothing like AA cover, you get breakdown cover with all rental cars as standard, what it covers you for is accidental problems like leaving you lights on all night or locking keys inside the car etc. Personally its not something I would buy, having rented approx 400 days in the US I would have spent over $2,000 on this and never needed to claim once.

Had a quick look at SUV prices, Argus have a reasonable price, only 25 euro cancellation if you see a better price nearer the time GBP £409.08, thats £100 cheaper than Netflights. http://www.arguscarhire.com/
Checked USrentacar £473
Others like Carhire3000 still haven't loaded their prices, even the ones that have charge a premium booking so far in advance, nearer the time I suspect others will be around Argus prices.

Thank you so much Wayne that is very helpful. We will keep looking and probably wait til they all have prices.
Have a wonderful holiday.:)
