Hi everyone,

This question goes out to the fellow 21 - 24 year olds out there, do you know of any car hire firms at Sanford that offer car rental without that nasty $25.00 per day surcharge?

Someone mentioned a company called u-save a while ago but thats all I have, any others?

Many thanks ya'll :goodvibes

I always find the Platinum insurance from Dollar covers 21-24 year olds and it includes all the other recommended extras such as SLI, CDW etc, only with extra drivers and first tank of gas, for about £22 a day, which is about £2 or so more than their fully inclusive insurance.

Thanks Claire,

I have just checked the Dollar website and it seems to still say i'll have to pay the surcharge even if I take the Platinum package, i've e-mailed them to be sure as I would rather go with Dollar than some off-site car hire company.

Hmmm I thought the Platinum included everything??

I may have read the T&Cs wrongly

* Minimum driver age is 21. Drivers age 21 to 24 must pay an additional fee. Additional drivers over 25 sign on locally. They also pay locally, unless they have purchased the Platinum Package

Not sure what to make of that, argh the joys of small print :confused3

Hmmm strange wording! Hope you get a reply back.

My take would be
1) they rent to drivers ages 21 plus
2) Drivers aged 21-24 pay an extra fee
3) Additional drivers can be added to th hire but must be over 25 and prove their identity at the rental desk
4) Additional drivers pay an extra fee locally unless the main driver has taken out Platinum insurance package then no extra fee but still have to id themselves at the rental desk

Anyone else have a thought on this gobbledegook?? :goodvibes

That was my fear Obi Wan!

U-save seem to be ok, just have to catch a shuttle bus from Sanford which is a bit annoying. They are cheap though, £96 for an economy car 1 week, bargain!

Still open to any more recommendations! :cool1:

If you fly with virgn and do a fly drive, their car hire package includes 21 - 24 at no extra cost, or it did last year. They are sometimes more expensive, but with the extra charges saved it may be a better option for you.

Andy,
My DD (20) and her BF (21) are going with Virgin, and don't have to pay any extra as they have gone with the platinum insurance. This insurance was £180 all in. So if you haven't booked already, I'd look at Virgin.. you won't get caught with any extra charges.

Yeah, when we went in 2005 we booked alamo car hire through BA for the same reason- the basic cost was a bit higher than alamo direct but covered everything including the underage driver charge so we saved money overall. Don't know if they still do the all inclusive but it's worth checking.

Looking at the BA website they don't hire from Sanford. But they do have a number of other pick up locations that might be convenient...

I have previously used Virgin, with their Platinum insurance, which was inclusive of the 'surcharges' usually added for under 25's, but found this to be rather expensive, usually for a naff car. Last year I used http://www.usrentacar.co.uk/ - I believe they have a section detailing offers for under 25's. From memory you can prepay the surcharge, saving a lot of money on their usual charges. It is only applicable with certain hire companies - we used Budget. No probs picking car up at Sanford and got a decent Chevy HHR for approx £120 for the week. Might be worth a look - sorry my memory is so hazy, but having been 25 for 5 months it is not a problem anymore!!!

I booked with usave through usarentacar last year for DN (then aged 22) and her new husband (aged 26). The pick up and return was offsite at Sanford, but the mini bus service was very efficient. The guys in the office were lovely and the car (a blue Chrysler boxy looking thing that you see over here - sorry, not very good with cars!) was great. They had no problems. USave were certainly the cheapest option for a young driver open to them last year.

Does anybody know if U Save have good deals for under 25 years from MCO airport and the best place to book them through

Roughly how much more is it for a younger driver to be added onto booking ,me & dbf are going and need a car for 13 days ,budget quite tight so if needs be i will have to be the driver but i would prefer to share driving

Thanks
