Hello,

I'm looking into car rental and need to hire a seat for my 18month old.

At home (in the UK), the first car seat does the baby from birth to approx 9-12 months, then the second more upright seat does them from this until approx 4 years (based on height and weight).

Now, when I go to the car rental website, it asks if I want a car seat from 0-2 years, or 2-4 years? Not sure what option I should choose as my daughter is tall for her age.

Is it different in the US?

You are going to want to go with 0-2 yrs. It should be classed as a "convertible seat" or "toddler seat", the sort that can be installed either forward or backward -facing, with an integral 5-pt harness.

Be aware that if you install it rear-facing, the seatbelt normally does not wrap all the way around the back of the seat shell as it does on UK seats. The rear seatbelts in most US cars are too short to reach that far. Instead, the belt doubles up and slots through an opening in the seat shell that runs horizontally just behind the child's back.
