CAR RENTAL, ST. MARTIN's (EASTERN)

My wife and I are taking the Eastern Cruise on 2/22/03. We look forward doing a self tour.

Does anyone have any tips on car rentals in St. Martin's.

Questions ????

Will an agency drop a car off at the pier & can you drop it back at the pier.

Approx. Cost (Cost, mileage, gas, etc.)

Anything to keep in mind ?????

I believe there is a car rental place at, or near the pier. If you are renting a car, ask for information on the "horn signals". In St Maartin, they use the horn to signal different things, very strange if you don't know about it.

The other thing is to remember to get back to the ship early, traffic can get very congested later in the day.

We made reservations through budget on line. We paid 50$.
They are at the pier. They will take you to the car a 3 minute drive. You return the car there than they transport you back to the pier. THere is free close parking at the pier should you wish to return to the ship for lunch or to get somthing from your cabin.
Make reservations ahead of time it seemed like the best price and you can avoid a hassel at the pier by the competitve sales guys that will bombard you one you get 20 feet from the car rental booths ( there are 4 agencys) hertz, budget and 2 not well known agencies.... stick with hertz or budget.

milage is unlimited and there are gas stations close by.
Be warned ....the gas stations do not take credit cards.
