Car rental rates???

I am thinking of renting a car to drive from NY to FL in August. My dates are pick-up the car Aug. 16 and drop off Aug.26th. I thought this would be much cheaper than flying, but all of the quotes I am getting are outrageous! They are around $700 to rent a car! Is this because my dates are so long? Am I not searching in the right place?

Renting in Manhattan proper is insane. Too many rules, fees, taxes, concession charges etc.

Using the dates you established.. I priced an Alamo rental from Iselin, NJ..

Using Walmart Discount 430710 and a free upgrade COUPON code : AU3

Gets you a midsize (Pontiac G6 or similar) at the price of a compact ... The AU3 code needs you to settle the rental on a Mastercard I think. There are other ones out there. U46C is another one I think.

Total cost taxes etc included : 298.21

I know others think that when people say we're from NY they assume it's NYC, but I live about 3+ hours from NYC. So I wouldn't be renting from Manhanttan nor NJ. I guess I will have to keep looking for discounts. Thanks for your help though!

Can you identify roughly where you are at? Syracuse? Rochester? Albany?

The same rental from Syracuse would be 319$ taxes & fees included

Yeah, Syracuse seems to be the closest point for Binghamton.
