Car Rental or Taxi on St. Thomas?

We will be going to Coral World and Coki Beach on our own. We will want to shop afterward. There are four of us. Would you recommend a taxi or renting a car?

We were there a couple weekes ago and they have open taxis right outside the ship area. We hired one to take us to the beach and then pick us up a a specified time and take us shopping and then back to the beach. All in all it cost us 11.00 per person. Besides they drive on the right hand side of the road.
