Car Rental in Port Canaveral

Oh no! I’m concerned now- I don’t want to be stuck without a car with little kids for hours. That’s a special kind of punishment

we had no issues with Avis on 9/7. We were in the second shuttle to their location and were given a midsize car when we had reserved a compact. Maybe just make sure you're on one of the earliest shuttles? We ate in Cabana's but didn't self embark so we were outside waiting around 8:15.

We were on the first bus and the first people inline... They just didn't have the cars. They offered us two cars instead of the booked larger seven seater but beyond being a family of 6 and having many suitcases, being from Australia my husband is the only one who drives I don't feel comfortable so that wasn't an option.
There were at least another three people there in the same situation.
I would definitely not rent Avis Port Canaveral again and try a different location or supplier.

I hope I have no issues with Alamo on 11/16 at PC. I'll be so mad because I plan to be in Epcot that day. :rotfl:

We have always stayed in Orlando the night before our cruises and then taken a shuttle to the port. Next June we are flying into MCO 2 days before the cruise and staying in Cape Canaveral. We plan on renting a car at MCO to drive to the Cape. The day before our cruise we will go to Kennedy Space Center. I told my dh that we should return the rental car that evening and then Uber to the port the next morning. I think that would be the easiest. Otherwise, from reading what others have done, he could drop our dd, myself, and our luggage off at the port. He could then return the car and take the rental place shuttle to the port. If we do this option, do all rental car places have a shuttle to the port? Do you have to make a reservation for it and is there a fee? Could my dd and I check in at the port and get on the ship and the dh get on the ship later? We've done enough cruises and usually skip the pre-boarding pics. I don't want to wait at the port if it could take him hours to return the car and to get to the port. I'm leaning towards booking DCL transportation to MCO post cruise since we have no need for a rental. Has anyone used Uber to MCO after a cruise? We used Uber in FLL, but have heard it's difficult getting one in PC to take you to the airport

We are gonna be going to the park for three days before the cruise, then the cruise for four nights, and then three days in Clearwater Beach. We like having a vehicle in Disney and we need a vehicle to get to and from and around Clearwater. We just pulled the Band-Aid and rented a vehicle for the entire time and we will just park it in the garage at the port. Honestly, it was easier to do that than it was to just get a rental car after the cruise, or get one for our Disney Park days, return it, get a transfer to the port, go on the cruise, take a transfer back to the airport after the cruise, get another rental car, and drive to Clearwater. It was just easier to rent one from the airport when we arrive for the entire 10 days.

I don't know if all rental places have a shuttle to the terminal; however I believe the ones that are technically at Port Canaveral do (National/Enterprise/Alamo for sure). I would check before renting to be sure. For them, you don't have to reserve the shuttle, they run pretty regularly on embarkation days. That's always how I've done it: drop off the other people and all the luggage, go return the car, then take the shuttle back to the terminal. I do National, and it never takes hours, maybe half an hour if that. I'm not sure if your DD and you would be able to get on the ship without your DH (maybe someone else has experience for this).

Instead of packing the entire family into the courtesy shuttle van to the rental office, send just one person to pick-up/drop-off the rental car. Then drive the rental car back to port to pick-up/drop-off the family.

This packs more drivers into the courtesy shuttle van and less waiting for the shuttle van.

Hertz, Avis, Dollar, Thrifty, Budget and the ones you mentioned all have shuttles to and from the port from their offices in Port Canaveral. We have found any of them at any time can be a great experience or a bad one. It really is just hit or miss.
