Anyone have experience getting a rental from Hotwire? I've used them for hotel rooms with mixed results.

The prepay makes me nervous about the old switcheroo at the counter. You know, "you know how to take the reservation, you just don't know how to hold the reservation". :lmao:

I just gave this answer yesterday about a very similar question:

I have used Hotwire and Priceline many times for car rentals. They can offer good rates. I would not hesitate to use them again but you must be sure about your trip since once you book with them, it's prepaid and it's a final sale. You can't cancel or change your booking one bit. So be sure to look at all other alternatives, i.e. finding discount code (like on DIS) and comparing prices. If after all that, Hotwire still shows a better price, go for it.

You will get a Hotwire confirmation number and a second one from the rental company that you can then use to check on the rental car site to verify that all is in order. If the deal is good and your dates are set, don't worry. I will agree with you that results for hotels on Hotwire can vary since we all judge a hotel room very differently, but a full size car for me is a full size car and they use the usual big rental companies.

Honestly, I've only used Hotwire for Hotels too.

But there's a reason... I use Hotwire to get an idea on what to bid up to on Priceline for rental cars!

Priceline has always beaten Hotwire, so I go on Hotwire, see their price for a specific car and dates and then bid under that for Priceline.

I've used Priceline 3 times and all three times the rental car company ended up being Hertz.

Interesting approach. How much under the Hotwire price do you normally bid.

OT. Where on the Cape are you? My brother owns a house in South Dennis and one in Harwich. Love the Cape.
