Car Rental Help !!!

Does anyone know of any car rental companies that rent large vehicles. There is 7 of us, and a minivan is good, except no room for luggage, and they won't let me attach my luggage box on the top of it. (especially since there are no crossbars on the top of the minivan, grrr.)

I know they have 12-person vans - Expensive, very expensive.

A full-size SUV may have more room than a van.. not sure....

any suggestions?

Have you considered 2 full-size vehicles? You can frequently rent 2 cars for less money than a single vehicle for that many people. This also gives you flexibility if the group needs to split. Of course, this assumes that your group is more than 2 adults. If it's 2 adults, and 5 children, then the 2 vehicle thing isn't so good...

I think the only SUV that would give more room would be a Suburban, but I don't know if any of the companies rent those.

Otherwise, you could have 2 people (& some luggage) take a shuttle service while the others rent a van. This would work if your only concern is space for luggage, but there's enough seating for getting around during the trip.

What we've done with the 6 of us is to use Magical Express to take us to and from our Disney hotel then rent a car the next day thru our last day/morning. We have rented from Alamo or National at the Dolphin resort. They will pick you up or you can just arrange to take the bus there mid day from one of the resorts. This takes care of our luggage problem -- no way our luggage and 6 people would fit into a regular mini-van.

Read the fine print. Particularly with that kind of vehicle rental agencies will frequently have a mileage charge, limit the number of free miles or will restrict what states you can drive the car.

Also check, some of the credit card companies, and even your own insurance, may not cover you if you rent a large van.

The other suggestion is go very light with your luggage. Consider buying health and beauty aids in Orlando.

About 3 years ago we rented a Ford Excursion, its like a suburban only it has more room, from Hertz with unlimited mileage. They didn't show it available online so I had to handle all the processing over the phone. It worked at really well. So well in fact we bought one when we got home. I don't know what they have available now but you might try calling around. I wouldn't have known if I hadn't.
