Just returned from 2 great weeks and had a great national rate of $115/week. Now checking for our trip Dec.30-Jan.9 and the best rate I can find for a full size is over $500.

Help!!! Is this the best I can expect for this time of year?

Rates are extremely high, from other threads, it's because of a car shortage??? Normally National is very competitive and I've always gotten good rates, but during my July trip I paid the highest price every ($160 base rate a week for EA). While some folks' rates dropped in September, they are still extremely high for October and again I'm paying a higher than normal rate ($180 base rate a week for full size). Before those trips I averaged about $110-120 a week before taxes. I'm hoping that National again becomes a competitive company, because lately their rates stink. Luckily I should move to the next tier of their club next year, so hope their prices get better. Good luck. All you can do is check often. I checked twice a day every day for six months and never did my price drop.

Did you try picking up the car at the car care center at the dolphin for national instead of the airport. Even if you have to pay for a shuttle of towncar it still might come up cheaper.

Your dates are the big problem. Since you want to pick up the car at the start of the New Year's weekend, you are going to have lots of trouble finding a good rate, especially since it's not all that long until the end of the year.

Unless you absolutely have to have a car for that weekend, my advice is to reserve the from January 1 or 2 through the 9th. Your rate will be much much less! There are several agencies to chose from that you can get to using Disney transportation -Alamo & National are the most convenient, but most of the DD Resorts have car rental desks from other agencies.

You can take Mears or a towncar to get to your resort. You may not want to drive much during that weekend (due to the crowds) anyway.

Best wishes -

Try this,

I am no expert but I am renting NYE week too and I just canceled
a reservation with National because we need the car fewer days
now.
I tried my old code for your dates and it shows a full sized car
for a grand total of $320.

I got them from Mousesavers although the product rate code is
no longer listed, I pluged it in and it still worked .
The cupon I used is from my entertainment book, if you need one
I can send you one, I have several.
The contract ID is the American Express
I am not sure that I can post the codes here so I will pm them to you.

Hope this might help.

Hi there! We are traveling at approximately the same time you are! I got a rate of $184 for a week (Intermediate size) with National using the Carlson Lesiure Code (5760339) and the $20 off Entertainment coupon. The rate with Priceless, which is usually the best, was hundreds of dollars more. Have you tried this combination???

Thank you so much Dagny!!! The Carlson Lesiure Code just knocked $88 off of my December rental and that's without a coupon! I'm going from Dec 29th to Jan 3rd and the lowest I could find for an intermediate through National was $238. With this code I was able to reserver one for $150!

Thanks for the tip!
