I have never rented a car before- but need one this trip. Need to get it from All Star resort, keep for 2 days, and return at MCO. Hoping this is possible and cheap?

My suggestion is go online and plug in your dates . As far as rates go it can vary depending on the time of year , car type you need , demand in the area, etc.
We don't rent in Orlando but I know from experience elsewhere . On 2 trips to San Diego( at the same time of year )we needed the car 4 days out of 8. On one trip it was cheaper to do the 4 day, but the other trip renting for the 8 and paying hotel parking those extra days was cheaper. It was the same company and car type .

Rent one as soon as possible without putting any money out. Keep checking the price because it can change and you can rebook and cancel the old car. Check your car insurance and credit cards to see if you carry the insurances needed.

When driving to the airport, be very careful to stay right at the toll booths, you don't want to get charged for not having the transponder, you can just pay cash. It can cost a fortune if you don't have the transponder.

Thanks for the advice~ especially this!

Check out carrentalsavers.com for comparisons of the best prices from all of the companies available. Book the one that works for you then keep checking even several times a day if you can. Sometimes you can randomly hit a great price.

In regards to the tolls, when you stay to the right to pay cash it almost feels like you are taking an exit. Don't panic, you aren't really getting off it just feels that way.

At the airport, I panicked a little when I realized I had to cross several lanes of traffic to get to the car rental return. Fortunately, there was no one coming and I was able to get over safely but after the fact I read a tip that the airport is essentially a circle so if it is not safe to get over then just do a loop around working your way over as it is safe to do so and when you come back around you will be in the proper lane as needed.

Yep.

AND you can return cars on either A or B side.

Do you need to drive it to MCO? Can you not use ME to the airport? It may be more expensive to return there, plus tolls as talked about by PP. You can get a car from the CarCare Center on property through Alamo. They will send a shuttle to pick you up and drop off at any resort. My friends just used if this week to go to Universal and visit family for two days, and it was very easy. It was around $50/day, and advice above is correct, book and then keep checking as prices change, and you can cancel and rebook anytime. Also join their Insiders club for a small discount, and quick pickup, and check for promo codes on Mousesavers as mentioned, and sites like RetailMeNot, although I have found most are for weekly or weekend rentals, but usually have a free upgrade to next car size.

You can also pick up a car easily at Dolphin Resort - seemed to be about the same price, just which is more convenient for you. Mousesavers lists all the locations and companies, including ones at DS hotels.

We are stating at WDW for one night only, then driving to visit family for 2 more nights. So DME not an option back as we won't be coming from a Disney resort. I wish we could! Nervous about the drive....
