Any recommendations for or warnings against a particular car rental company out of LAX? ARe there any inside the airport terminal or do they all use the little bus system?

I've used Budget with no problem, and another one (forget the name at the moment) and again had no problem. All of the car rental places are off the airport property and have shuttles that go to them.

Do not use budget unless you are part of their rapid/express program. I spent 55 minutes in their understaffed line and when I got to the front and registered, I was told to wait another 15-30 minutes until my car would be ready (now one hour after my "reserved" time.

We've used National with no problems. In fact, the last couple of times out there, we've been able to upgrade to a bigger car at no additional cost because they didn't have any other cars available.

We've used Alamo and had no problems. The wait was minimal, staff was friendly, and price couldn't be beat. We've used Budget too almost 2 years ago. No glaring problems stuck out in my mind. Unfortunately there aren't any rental agencies within the airport. All have off site facilities using the bus system. The bus system is actually quite manageable even with young children, car seats, strollers and lugages. We've never had to wait more than 5 minutes for a bus to come pick us up. The entertainment book has some good coupons for rental cars. we booked a 6 day full size rental once for $130 inclusive of tax. Also check out the costco travel website if a member.

I think most of the companies are about the same. We used Hertz and it was fine. We were looking at rates for an upcomming trip and Dollar was a lot cheaper than most. It just depends on your bottom line.

We usually use Alamo or National but tried Dollar this time because the internet price we got was SOOO CHEAP!!! :hyper2: We ended up with a nice car, not much of a wait. We would rent from them again.

I second Dollar. We got a great rate. We even got a nice upgrade. Originally supposed to get a Compact car. We had a blast driving that car down to San Diego. WE signed up for Dollar Express so we got to bypass the lines. It was a nice timesaver.

If you have entertainment book you can use Enterprise. I always use them, get compact car and pay $13.00 a day. With tax for 5 days its around $76.
I never paid more than this and been there 10 times.

I do have the Entertainment book! I found a way to get a free Emerald Card (instead of paying $50) through mousesavers dot com and so far the combination of the Emerald Club code and the Entertainment book coupon is giving me the best price. AND it will be convenient using the Emerakd Aisle and bypass the counter.
