Y husband and I will br staying at Aulani doe 10 days at the end of Feb 2014. Can anyone give us any advice on car rental and what we should see and what we should skip. We have cabana reserved for the day we arrive since we arrive at airport at 6 am..... Anyone have any advice?????

Strike your best deal among the major rental agencies at HNL. Lots to see on Oahu; climb Diamond Head in the morning, later it gets hot. Visit the north shore, The Bishop Museum, Iolani Palace, Pearl Harbor and the Bowfin, The Punchbowl. Oahu has more to offer than just nice beaches. Just the drive around it worth seeing.

One thing to keep in mind is that Alamo has a desk at aulani. We rented through Costco and got a fair deal. Overall, the rental cars are in much "rougher" shape in Hawaii vs. Florida. We had reserved a minivan. There were several to chose from but cosmetically scratched up and a bit dirty. Make sure you document any damage so you aren't responsible. We also noticed our brakes were not operating well. We were able to switch cars at Aulani instead of having to head all the way back to the airport.

As far as what to see, check the DVC trip report board. I have my trip report from Aulani and there are many others with great advice of what to hit and what to skip. Let me know if you have nay specific questions....I'll see what I can remember (we were there summer 2012).

Been to Aulani twice. Here's what I've learned and where we went:

North Shore: Dole Pineapple Plantation and Matsumoto Famous Shaved Ice
Pearl Harbor: Get there VERY early before tour buses and take into consideration the traffic from Aulani to HNL (it's pretty bad).
Leonards Bakery: HNL. Parking is horrible. Lines can be long but worth the trip. We went twice!
National Memorial Cemetary: Beautiful. It was a special trip there for me, I have an uncle buried there. I found the site quickly and easily and placed flowers.
Hanks Haute: Saw this on Diner, Drive-ins and Dives. Best crème brulee I ever had. I know....hard to believe.

I thought trying to get a "deal" on a rental car was kinda difficult. If I recall, I think it was about $400 for one week. When arriving in HNL and heading to Aulani, look for the shopping center where Target, Costco, Safeway and many other stores and restaurants are. It's on the opposite side of driving when heading to Aulani. That's where everyone goes for food and other necessities. Many, many people leave the hotel at night for dinner. Whether they go across the street or to Roys down the road or into HNL. Many do not find the food at Aulani very good, and it's very expensive.

Have a wonderful trip.
