Car Rental Extras?

I am looking into renting a car this fall for our trip as we need room for 7. In looking at rental sites, I am a bit confused about what extras we need to get along with the rental. I don't plan on getting the return fuel at any level as we will fill up right before dropping it off, but what about the other stuff--roadside assistance, collision waiver, extended protection, etc... Do I need any of this or will my own auto insurance cover the necessities?

Thanks!

For passenger cars, your own car rental coverage normally covers it. It sounds like you are renting something larger.

No matter what you rent, you should know what your own car rental insurance covers. You should be able to find the information in your policy. Personally I wouldn't trust responses from a web based discussion board to give you an accurate answer for your situation.

So, I will check and see what my insurance covers, but if it covers rental cars, wondering if that is sufficient. Will the rental car company go over the car with a magnifying glass and try to charge me for scratches and minor stuff probably already on the car to begin with.

What do others get when they rent is probably what I need to know.

I always look for major dents and scratches. If there are any I have them noted on my copy of the rental agreement.

Most car rental agencies don't look at the cars too closely on return. They don't worry about little stuff like scratches from car wash brushes since they buff that stuff out before sale. Also, most car rental returns (MCO included) are quite dark and it would be impossible to see little things.

Be sure to let your insurance company know you are renting a 7 passenger vehicle. Some of the larger vans are built on truck chassis and may not count as a car.

Okay! Thank you so much for the info. :flower3: I will definitely let my insurance company know and see if we are covered.

Thanks!
