car rental - car seats/booster seats?

We have a 9 yr old and an 5 yr grandchild coming with us. Do we need car seats for both? For just the 5 yr old? How about booster seats instead? Would it be easier to bring our own or rent?

do either of the kids use booster seats at home? My DD8 is not in one, but my DD6 is. If they use one at home, I would use one for travel too. I would think that the 5 year old could use a booster....Walmart has one that is backless, quite inexpensive and very easy to take with you by packing it in a duffel bag that can be checked as luggage.

I would not rent one. It is much easier to take one with you than to pay the rental fee and you never know how clean or safe it will be.
