Car rental cancellation

How far in advance do you have to cancel a car reservation? If you don't cancel and don't pick up the car will you still get charged? We made a reservation with National EA.

Unless you agreed to a certain cancellation policy (very rare), you can cancel at any time. As a courtesy, you should cancel as soon as you know you will not be using the reservation. Rates are determined by the number of reservations they have, so by keeping a low rate and not using it, you could be denying someone else of a low rate.

If you booked National with a credit card (or using an Emerald Club #), their policy states that you will be charged $50 if you cancel less than 24 prior to ressie pick-up time OR $50 for a no-show after 12 hours past your pick-up time.

Do they hold you to this??? I don't know.
