Car rental blues

Maybe someone on this board can give me some pointers to my 'problem'.

First off, we went to Disney (orlando) from Oct 8-16. All in all the trip was great with the exception of getting a rental car. I had reserved a car from Alamo for 161/week BUT I apparently reserved it for Nov instead of October. Hence I could not get a car from them.

Now Dollar did have some cars, but they wanted ~130 a DAY! I called travelocity to check with them and they confirmed that dollar was the only company that had cars at that time. Travelocitys discount was ~85/day. So yea, I got reamed for a little neon for 8 days.. Is there anything I can do by calling them up and complaining about the price?

Thanks for reading this and any help you can provide :/

First of all, if you call Dollar be VERY polite and ask if there is anything they can do. If you act angry at them (as opposed to hurt) their response (legally) can be "You didn't have to rent from us". If you get anthing it will be from their goodness only.

If this had happened to me I would have realized that other transportation was available. You don't say how many people were travelling or where you were staying. If you had taken Mears to a hotel it would have been about $14.00 per person each way. A Taxi to the Disney area from the airport is about $45 no matter how many people.

Once situated, you could have checked car rentals on a daily basis, for example from one of the on-site locations at WDW or used other transportation. Even if you used taxicabs every day to and from the parks it would have been less expensive than car rental at that price.

Did your printed confirmation indicate Nov.? Just wondering because others have posted that there were mass issues during this time frame with Alamo not having enough cars to meet the reservations that they took.

I just posted on another thread but its true that the agencies are very short on cars right now since FEMA rented alot of them..

Yes, I posted for nov, but meant to post for oct. Probably just user error :/

You didn't have a reservation and you agreed to rent at that price. Not sure what good complaining is going to do. You weren't overcharged, you just didn't like the rate you agreed to. You could write them a nice letter, perhaps they'll send you an upgrade coupon for a future rental. I wouldn't have relied on travelocity, you should have called the 800 numbers, even some of the offsite places, and see what else was available BUT

given the shortage of cars you were probably lucky to get a car at any price. As was already posted, a non-rental car alternative might have made more sense.

When did you find out there was an error? At the rental desk? or before that?

I would have been on the bus!

Wow!! That had to hurt!

I would definitely try something. All they can say is no.
