Is there any advantage to going through Member Services for a car rental or will I get the same thing calling National myself? Any discounts or anything? <IMG SRC="/infopop/emoticons/icon_confused.gif" alt="confused">

I'd like to know the answer to this too. In addition, can you do it with an airport pickup if you are a National Reantal Car Emerald member ? We have always made our own car ressies on line using my Emerald card, and used airport pick up. I guess I am just wondering if there is even a better rate doing it through MS and combining it with my Emerald card.

I have to book a car ressie for our November trip to BWV on points.

We found the lowest rate for National by booking thru Travelocity on the web. Be careful of National though (or any of the car companies I suppose) We told the woman at the counter we didn't want insurance, but she put it on anyway. Of course, in our rush (with a huge line of people behind us) we didn't notice until we returned the car and were given the actual bill. We had to straighten the whole thing out later by dealing with National's headquarters.

You may be able to get better deals but MS does have pretty good rates. In the past their rate was better than what you'd get using MKC (when that still existed). It's some sort of Disney rate with National.

FL/Orlando tacks on a big airport tax when picking up your car there. When seeking rates, ask them about picking the car up at Disney? I might be cheaper to take Tiffany to Disney and get your car. I know National has an office at Disney. Give it a try.

I've found better rates on my own with National and DC discounts...

I've always booked online with Emerald Club. My last 2 rentals were $107 for the week (Emerald Aisle (20% off) - full size, $15 off Entertainment Coupon). Their rates go up and down, you need to watch for when they are down, I booked mine in early fall last year for December and February trips. They tend to go up right before holidays. I love Emerald Aisle - you go straight to the garage, no counter. Disney Club members get the card free (normally $50), I'm not sure if DVC members qualify too. I got mine about 3 years ago, I just called and asked for a "fee waived" application as someone had posted on a board and they faxed it to me. There is more info on Emerald Club on the transportation board.

When we picked up our car over spring break a few weeks ago, we were told that National had JUST changed their policy so that you could no longer have the double discount. If you have an Emerald aisle discount, you can't use the entertainment coupon on top of that. The woman took our $15 coupon and removed the 20% discount (which had been larger) and it wasn't worth it to us to fight over it but from now on I guess I won't use the $15 coupon if any sort of discount shows up.

Also the 20% discount is not a given. It may be 5%, it may be 10%, or even 15%. Sometimes it is nothing. It just depends. I have found the best rates on national's own website but as of late they seem to have gone up quite a bit.

In 1997 I got the best deal I could find with MS.. National.not emerald aisle.

Does anyone know what the cancelation policy is for a car booked through MS? If I find it cheaper elsewhere a month later, can I cancel w/ MS w/o any charges? Thanks

Lisa

You can use a double discount at National. You're allowed on contract code and one coupon code. So, can be EB EB, DC DC, EB DC, DC EB...

I was in WDW in the begining of march and booked a rental car through MS because it was easy. They gave me a 2 day rate of $35 per day. When we came back from the cruise we had a lot of time to kill before our plane left so we rented a car and went back to Downtown Disney the rate w/o reservations was $40 (of course is was Sat.). I don't know how these compare because I didn't really shop around.

Hey, Pluto4President -- I know DC is Disney Club, but what's EB?

We just got a great rate renting through National in L.A. with Disney Club and would be thrilled if we could lower it even more!

EB = entertainment book. Savings usually aren't as good as DC though
