I used Avis a few weeks ago. Pickup at the terminal was prompt, and we got in/out of the office in a few minutes. I would use them again.

I've used both Avis and Hertz.

Avis was very good but I might have been lucky to get there before a long line. Also I have "status" with Avis so my paperwork is ready to go when I rent.

Hertz, the one time I've been there had a longer line. Again, this might just be timing.

Cars for both were fine. Bus ride is shorter for Hertz by less than 5 minutes.

Thanks for the information! We already booked the Disney transportation but I guess we know for next time that this is ALOT cheaper

We have used Dollar and they were OK but would get a cab rather than wait for a shuttle. When we used them last year, my DH and our friend waited well over an hour and there were so many people in front of them, with their luggage, still waiting to get to port that it wasn't worth the wait. We were given boarding number 5 when we arrived at port just after 10.30 but ended up not getting on the ship until they were boarding group 13 since it took them so long to get back.

You can easily cancel the Disney transportation right up to I believe 3 days before your cruise.

We have used Dollarand they were OK but would get a cab rather than wait for a shuttle. When we used them last year, my DH and our frined waited well over an hour and they were still bringing people from the port and refused to take anybody TO port until they'd fetched everyone.

I don't understand why they wouldn't take people to the port. The bus is going anyway, why not take some people?

My misunderstanding from what my DH said, I have edited my previous post but, basically, it was just the sheer number of people there, meaning he ended up having to get a cab as there must have been nearly 20 people in front of him with tons of luggage (we always drop everyobdy and the luggage at port and just one person returns the car).

They will be waiting there right by the Disney buses. A porter can help you and your bags if you need.

is the same as Thrifty. Any recent reviews using National Port Canaveral location.

i've used Budget the past two years/two cruises as i am a Budget Fastpass member...i will do all i can to never use them again in Cocoa Beach/Cape Canaveral...

the wait times on Saturday's to get from the office to the ship can be outrageous....

1) departure day, Aug 2012: get to Budget around 12 to drop off the car...the line is already around the back waiting for a shuttle to take people to the port....rain clouds gathering....finally decide "the hell with this, lets take a taxi" which are hovering around the Budget office like vulchers...thank gosh we did as five minutes later the clouds burst open....i take a bit of responsibility as i got there to drop my car off a little later than i wanted...

2) return day, Aug 2012: wait in line 20 minutes for a shuttle to take us from the ship to the office to pick up the car....wait 20 minutes on the line to get our car...get to the front and they don't have enough cars so we wait another 20 minutes for cars to arrive from MCO and be readied...slightly my fault as I said I would be picking up the car later than we arrived at the office...

3) departure day, 2013 (the clincher)....get to the budget office before 10AM to drop off the car...we have family vacationing in Cocoa Beach who follow us to the Budget office and will drive us to the Fantasy once we drop the car off...already a long line (20-30 minutes) in the office...i walk to the front and explain i pre-paid for the car and want to drop it off....they tell me you still have to wait on this line!!...i don't cause a scene but politely tell them to screw themselves as the car was pre-paid, the tank is full of gas and I have people waiting outside to take me to the ship...they start threatening me that if i leave i will have no recourse if they charge me for "extras".....i give the keys to the attendant outside and say "toodles"....

Your post has me rethinking my plan. We aren't with Budget but have a car reserved with National (which is served by Enterprise in Cocoa Beach). My plan is to drop my wife and son at the port, return car, and then shuttle back to port at embarkation. At debarkation, I'll take shuttle to National, get the car and come back to pick up my family and the bags. With multiple ships at port, won't every rental place have long waits? Also, is there anything to consider picking up and dropping off at port? I don't want to make them wait for me for an hour or more to save a few bucks. Any feedback is appreciated.

Avis is probably the best but they are the most expensive....
