My Fiance and I got totally duped this weekend and I now feel like a total idiot!
On Sunday I took David to Meadowhall (Sheffield) to get the watch that I had bought him fitted, knowing that he really wanted a new car I told him that I would take him to Car Craft just to have a look around.
So just after lunchtime we go, as soon as we walk in through the door a salesman heads our way. We tell him that we are just looking as David doesn't know what he is looking for at the moment. So he tells us the layout of the forecort and off we go. We see the same guy later outside and David asks him where the smallish Audi's are and he points us in the right direction. Everything is going well so far. David see's the car of his dreams and asks for a test drive. After that he has totally fallen in love with an Audi A3 1.8 T-Sport.
The Salesman is an old Irish guy who seems really nice so off we go to talk figures. Their finance was too expensive (5000 in interest!) but I asked if we could arrange our own and he said yes of course, if you fill these forms in you can take the car now and come in during the week with the cash. We aked if we could take the car back if we couldn't get the loan that we wanted and he said yes no problem. At about 5.30pm David agree's a figure and off we go. Now's where it goes bad. First of all they let him drive the car without it being taxed and said that the police couldn't do anything because the post office was closed due to the bank holiday. They drove with David to our house to pick up his ID for insurance purposes. Then when we realised that getting a loan wouldn't be that easy as David has only been living with me for 5 months we called them to see if we could take it back, not only is the salesman off but they said that there is no way that we could take it back as it is now David's arrgggg!!!
So after a few sleepless nights and two wonderful friends we are now keeping the car. But please don't make the same mistake as us, Car Craft have apparently been on watchdog for their doggy dealings so please be aware. Thank you for reading.

I'm glad things worked out OK in the end for you. I must admit, I am always a bit suspicious of places like this that seem to be offering the moon - there is almost always a price to pay.

The whole things sounds extremely dodgey - start to finish.

Sorry that happened but glad you worked it out!

So sad that even big companies are so desperate to sell a car they result to school boy tactics! :badpc:

We've been having problems with the dealers after buying our new car. Turned out there were several problems with it when we bought it (the type of stuff you don't get to check in test drives like central locking systems and the presence of a spare wheel - this actually disappeared after we test dove it!) Luckily they've agreed to fix the stuff so far but the process we've had to go through is rediculous, the central locking is still broken over a month later!

I have to say that I never trust car sales people. I'm sure most of them are lovely, honest people but you just hear too many stories like the one above and I don't know enough about cars to see the line between truth and rubbish!

Glad it's all worked out for you.Your is one of many bad things i have heard about them, bil's being another but thats a different story.

Unfortunatley car sales people just want your money and that's it - for the majority good friendly service is not that important.

There are a few of these car supermarkets in our area, one or two have a good reputation but like you say I think you have to be careful anytime you buy a car.

I visited Car Craft a few years back, it didn't take long to see why they gave you at least £1500 for your old car. All their cars were at least £1500 more than other local dealers. I have a lot of distrust for them since and wouldn't dream of getting anything from them. My brother has just got something from them and he has paid over the odds and will pay silly interest, for personal reasons he didnt have much option.

Mind i have a complete mistrust of everything to do with cars from sales to repairs so Car Craft is not on its own. Enforced regulation is required.

yes we got the same vibes from our local car craft years ago the mileage on some cars looked a little dodgy as well if you know what i mean. Glad everything has worked out for you.

ITA with the poster who said car dealers should be regulated, when I shop for a car (unfortunately too frequently) I can almost see them thinking 'ah! single woman lets fleece her!'

Thank you all for your kind thoughts. I think they saw a young couple and thought here's some good commission! We certainly won't be buying from there in the future. I lost faith with human nature but as always the dis proves not everybody is like that :Pinkbounc

Glad you have managed to get it sorted out.

I agree, it is not fair. That said, he is a salesman, working on commission, if he does not make sales he does not get paid, therefore he is doing what he has to do to get paid.

Tesco`s (for example) sell products at inflated prices, but we pay without complaining ( too much:rotfl: )difference is that we do so without a salesman talking us into it.

You have to go into a situation like Carcraft with the bull headed attitude that you are only going to buy if the price is right - homework is essential, and you are fully in control of the situation. That said, I don`t know if I would be able to, as often my heart will rule my head!!!

Is this the CarCraft at Junction 27 (I think) on the M62 or is it one down near Sheffield as I didn't know there was one there? We went to the one at Junction 27 as it's less than a 5 min drive from home, all the prices seemed much higher than elsewhere.

It's at Junction 33 on the M1 between Sheffield and Rotherham.

When I was typing it all I sat there thinking how did you not realise that this was going to happen. As they say if it sounds too good to be true it probably is. I just hope a few people will learn a lesson from this.

There are certain areas of UK industries that seem to be able to get away with almost unbelieveable antics, Car Industry is one. Shoddy work, dodgy cars.

Not sure what thing are like across Europe and the States but it needs clamping on here.
