Car or Jeep rental in Cozumel

Has anybody ever rented a car or jeep n Cozumel and if so how did they arrange for it and what was the cost?

We rented one from Hertz last May. We did not reserve it ahead of time. The office was located to the right, a little down the road from the dock. We walked to it without any problem. They gave us a new Jeep Wrangler. I think we paid around $100 for the day including insurance. I think the car was about $75 and then tax/insurance. DH wanted to make sure they could not hassle us if something happened since we were not in the USA. We did have one problem though - we loved the darn Jeep so much we bought one when we came home. That excursion turned out to be an expensive one.

We really did have a wonderful day driving around Cozumel in that thing. It was a great way to see everything at your own pace. We stopped at places that interested us and took our time exploring. It was very relaxing. Good luck with what you decide to do.

We are cruising in August and just made our jeep reservations at Avis. The amount is $50 for the day plus tax. I was told by our TA that they are at the pier.

On our June 03 cruise we booked with Hertz prior to the cruise. We paid $45 for the day while our friend who waited until we got there had to pay $100 for the same jeep! It was a wonderful way to see Cozumel, but I do want to issue a warning about the Hertz there. When we returned the jeep, the fellow ran out of the office and straight to a small spot on the jeep and claims we dented it. He didn't even walk out slowly and check the jeep over, he obviously knew the small dent was there prior and went straight to it. My husband had a hell of a fight on his hands getting them to accept the fact that we weren't going to pay $200 to fix this small dent. Needless to say, after 30 minutes of arguing he got them to close the account out. We also notified American Express (the card we used to pay with) to keep an eye out for extra charges, which never came.
I would do rent the jeep again, but go with someone else like Avis.
