Car or bus?

I would like to point out that, at least on the direct routes (resort-to-park, park-to-resort. resort-to-DTD, etc), the taxi is faster than the bus ONLY because the bus time takes waiting time into account (unless the taxis as Disney have figured out a way to defy physics?).

yep, I agree; it's just "wait time" :laundy: for the bus to load and go vs. getting $$$ out of your wallet; however, personally, we only plan to hop a :car: taxi from AKL to:
POR - fishing excursion
FW - horseback riding excursion
GF - dinner at Narcoossee's
WL - dinner at Artist Point

for all trips to Epcot and DAK, we'll take the bus! :drive: TBD is how we'll get to WWSports and MK for a 7am marathon!

For the latter two reservations, if you allow yourself enough time - take the bus from AKL to MK, then the launch to GF for Narcoossee's (docks near the restaurant) and the WL one over to Artist Point - nice ride. Again, IF you allow yourself enough time.

My vote is for the rental car. I find waiting in line for the bus at the end of the day to be exhausting. With a car you can leave when you want to. It is no big deal to get to your car and the parking pass is good at any park through out the day.

Now just mention resort mugs, pool hopping, parking at other resorts to go to a park, line saving ... and watch out! ;)

Not only do I like your user name, but your post is accurate too.

I sometimes rent a car and other times take Disney transportation. It all depends on what we're doing and when. When we went to watch our daughter run the marathon, we had very tight schedules so a car was a must. The same when we were there for a wedding last year. When we have no urgent scheduling though, the buses can be a relaxing and interesting experience. Enjoy.

I rented a car when I stayed at the AKL for a few reasons. First, I hate busses. So everything I say is a bit tainted by that sentiment. Second, you can't get ANYWHERE from the AKL without taking a bus. At least all of the other resorts allow you to walk SOMEWHERE, whether it be one of the parks or another resort, but nothing is near the AKL. Third, our daughter was young, and we didn't want to be humping her stroller on and off busses, nor were we comfortable putting her on a bus without a carseat.

Finally, and this is something I think everybody should consider, we like to resort-hop. I'd rather not have to worry about transportation when I'd deciding where to eat. And the bussing system just doesn't work when going from resort to resort - you have to take multiple busses and budget an hour of travel time each way.
