car key on rides

I am a follower of rules ordinarily, and I do not mind using lockers for rides, but....

I do not want to let my car key out of my possession. There will not be anyone to hand it to while I ride, and I am irrationally terrified of losing my car key 12 hours from home.

Does anyone know a way to keep it on me?

I have a couple pairs of shorts that I usually wear in the parks that have a pocket that seals with a zipper. I put keys, rooms key, CC and cash in there and have never been asked to empty it. So unless there have become more strict since our last visit I would invest in a pair of shorts/pants with a sealed pocket.

They have installed metal detectors on some of the coasters, so you would NOT be able to bring your car keys on those rides, even if they are secured in a zippered pocket.

You can't take anything on Hulk, Dueling Dragons or RRR. You have to pass through metal detectors before you enter. Otherwise, you will be fine with the key in your pocket.

We always stay onsite so no need to bring car keys. It's usually just plastic room key, CC, and cash in my pocket with no issues. I never thought about the metal detectors. :)

I usually stash all of those items in the plastic pouch on my lanyard! :-)

(Of course there was the one time on Rockit when my lanyard almost flew off over my head.... I always tuck it in to my shirt now!!!)

Me too. I almost lost a lanyard on mummy! The velcro came undone and the lanyard luckily flew up and hit my hand. I was extremely lucky to catch it!

It would stink losing a car key. Newer cars would need to be towed to closest dealer to have new key cut and reprogrammed to your car.

Or explaining to Universal management how your key impaled another guest!

I'd be more afraid of losing my keys ON the ride than I would be if they were safely stored in a locker.

There's a reason why Universal has these rules and I'm not sure that a lot of people realize that a man was blinded on Duelling Dragons because of someone's loose change flying into his face. There are also reports of an open pen knife hitting a child who was walking near one of the coasters. There is a display at Universal of some ofl the items that have been thrown from the coasters. Take a look at it and you'll be surprised what things become projectiles and can cause a lot of serious damage to a passerby or passenger.

I always have my car keys, phone and wallet in my pockets on all rides except the big outdoor coasters (Hulk, Dragon Challenge, Rip Ride Rockit) and the ONLY ride I've had an issue with was FJ. My phone fell out of my pocket during the whomping willow scene and it freaked me out. It didn't fall out of the vehicle, just to the back and I grabbed it, but it was a bad experience. I can't imagine any other rides in the parks being a problem though. As long as you don't go upside down, they should be secure.

Just follow the rules. If the ride requires you to have empty pockets, do so.

Not sure of OPs situation, but when I'm staying onsite I don't carry my keys at all. No reason to.

Same thing happened to me at the same spot but somehow mine made it out of my sit and into the young ladies beside me.
