car insurance

i have free basic with virgin but im guessing (and have been told) i need fully comp

should i take this out with virgin or is there other options. i dont even know where to start looking for something like this

Yes you will need to take out CDW/LDW insurance. It is the insurance that is expensive so sometimes it works out cheaper not to take the free car with Virgin but to hire the car and insurance through a seperate company. We usually use http://www.uscarhire.co.uk/ because it includes the insurance, we can collect from a location that suits us and overall works out the best for us, but there are many other companies out there.
I have not hired a car and then insured through another company. When you hire a car they usually take your credit card details so if the vehicle suffers any damage and you have not taken out insurance from then they could take the cost from your card and then you would likely have to claim from the seperate car insurers.
In my opinion it would make it much less complicated to insure through the hirer and certainly much less hassle if you did have to make a claim.
