If the car loan is in my name but my daughter will be the only one driving the car, can her dad (my ex-husband) put her on his car insurance?

Sorry I didn't look to see where you are from but I am an insurance broker in Ontario, Canada and basically here the policy itself will need to be in your name with your daughter as the principal driver. Not sure what the question is really about your husbands insurance but as the principal driver of the vehicle in question she doesn;t need to be added to his policy to be able to drive his vehicle.

Hope this helps

As the owner of the car by state laws you are the one required to have liablity insurance for it, you are ultimately the one responsible if an accident happens and there are damages. If his name is not on the title it would be difficult for him to obtain insurance, and then you are not protected for your liability as the owner.

Would I be able to put my daughter's name on the title? She is 17 years old.

Since you'll have a loan on the car, the only names allowed to be on the title, are those who the loan is under. To add her to the title, if it's a car you already have, you'll have to pay off the car, and refinance it in both of your names as co-owners. I also believe that as co-owners, you need to be on the same auto insurance policy. The only way your ex-dh can add your DD and that car to his policy is for the car to be in her name only. Or for him to purchase the car under his name.
