DD just got her G2. We called the insurance agent and they said, "Thank you for calling. That will be $1800 please". This seems insane to me. She did Young Drivers and is an A student. We have two BMW's but she will only be an occaisional driver and that will be on my car. DH's is a standard which DD doesn't know how to drive yet. We don't live in Toronto.

Anyone have any experience with this or any advice? Ya, ya, other than selling the BMW's:p

I feel your pain but check this out.....my sister has 4 sons...3 drive...the oldest is in his second year at Laurier...for 3 vehicles...a 97 Jetta, a 98 Jetta and a 2003 Chrysler Minivan she pays $11000.00 annually. On top of this the insurance company that she's been with for the last 10 years did not want to continue coverage based on the "perseved" risk to them ( number of new drivers in the home+number of vehicles=RISK) and cancelled her insurance!!!She had to shop it out and start all over!!!!Yikes...my DD is only 10 but I 'am definately not looking forward to this.Good Luck!!!

Car insurance sucks to say the least. for a 98 Chev Malibu we pay 1300 or so a year ya so my liscence was suspended for 9 years fr unpaid fines blah so what hehehe. I also pay another 1600 for motorcycle insurance and our new car is going to be another 1700 with a multi vehicle discount and the house all with the same company. Lisa and I have had no tickets in the past 5 years no at fault accidents and it just keeps getting worse. My motorcycle insurance went from 685 a year full coverage to over 1600 in 2 years this has got to stop insurance companies are robbing us blind. Ok just my opinion but heck it is legalized robery in my opinion.

Holy Moly!!! Glad I dont live in Ontario, for a 97 Chev Malibu, as an occasional driver my insurance is 465 I think, somn like that... At this time, i've only had my license for under two years... Drivers Ed did take like 200 or so off of my insurance...my moms is like 550 a year.

Wow, sure makes me appreciate our insurance company here in BC, we only have one (mandatory govt-based). We pay $1200 per year for our 2000 Rio Kia and $900 per year for our 1994 Taurus wagon. Our daughter just completed her YD course, got her New Driver licence and for her to be able to drive our cars, it's an extra $10.

I would check that with your insurance company again. That seems awfully high for an occasional teenage female driver. When my DD got her G2 (3 years ago) we paid less than $250 to add her to both our cars. Now it was a completely different story with my DS. That really put on extra $$.

Tink, that's more what I was expecting. Many of her friends are paying around $300-$400. Of course, the insurance company was closed last Wed - Fri so we'll be calling again today.

Well, the insurance people have said they have made a mistake and the quote they gave us was for a teen-age boy. That's great, but I guess it is just a glimpse into the future and what I can expect for DS, 15:rolleyes:

We pay $89. a month for my son(17) who is an ocassional driver on both of our vehicles-a 94 minivan and an 89 Sunbird. We asked about rates for our DD who just turned 16 and for the same coverage for her it will be $35 a month. Go figure!

True for an occasional driver but you also lose your "experienced driver" rate class eligibility that is available if all drivers have 10 or more years of experience with a good claims history. Also, the new driver can't drive the vehicle more than 50% of the time over the term of the policy.

Had to do a search to dig this one out. DS (17 in June) is wanting to graduate to his G2, and we were quoted an additional $2149 :earseek: And this was with the Young Driver certificate. I guess the idea is to price the kids out of driving, :( and while this is a good thing in some respects, I was counting on the extra driver for next fall. UGH

Debbie, hunt around for insurance. There seem to be a few out there who will give better rates.

Does anyone have a carrier they can recommend-My DD has had her G2 for two years-when she was an "occassional" driver (2 vehicles-3 drivers in the household) we paid an extra $1200 per year-just got our renewal and our insurance went up $4000 per year - the company decided she wasn't "occassional" because she uses the vehicle to go to and from school/part time job.

Well, having been "discussing" their reasoning re: DD as primary due to school/work driving with no luck. Our rates went up 240% (in the news last night the insurers profits were 2.6 billion a 673% increase). They won't budge so DD is giving up driving because she can't afford the insurance. Anyone wanna buy a nice previously owned van?

Yes, but they said it wasn't because of insurance rates:rolleyes:
