I have a van rented for 17 days and had planned to use my car insurance and have myself and my son do the driving. I sold my convertible last year since we no longer needed two vehicles. That vehicle was in my name and the other vehicle in my wife’s name. The insurance slip has her listed since she is the owner of the vehicle. I can drive but I’m not sure if my son will be able to and I don’t want to do all the driving while there. Any suggestions?

Read your (her) policy, all companies can vary on this. You don't say if your son resides at home or at a different address, that can make a difference. You also don't say if the rental will be in your name or your wife's; again can make a difference as it sounds like you are no longer a named insured.

Also, consider the coverage provided by the credit card used to pay. Also pay close attention to the length of the rental as some of those policies can cut off after 7-14 days.

Use the strictest interpretation of the language in the policy you can think of, because if there is a claim you can bet that your insurer will do the same.

Thanks for the advice. Son is 42, married and lives in Keswick. Reservation is under my name through Costco thus giving me an additional driver. I just got back from MTO, paid $32.00 and have both nes on ownership and insurance policy. Better safe than sorry
