We are thinking of hiring a car for a couple of days when we get to Disney. Is this possible and how do we go about it? There is 7 of us travelling, staying at Pop Century. :thanks:

There is an Alamo rental agency at the exit of TTC
you can arrange transfer from and to the hotel (free of charge) direct with Alamo once you book your car.

You'll most probably have to send the driver alone to pick up the car

you'll need booster seats for any child aged 5 and under (or who isn't able to use the car's seatbelts safely.

for a first look and a quote, go to alamo's website, and choose "city" in the pick up location type, then Disney Car Care as the agency.

this location is not open 24/7 like at the airport, it's only open 24hrs on weekends.
You can pick up the car at the Car Care Center and drop it off at the airport, or the other way around, at no additional charge. If this fits your needs.

We have hired cars before from the hotels on Hotel Plaza Blvd.
One from the Buenavista Palace and the other from the Regal Sun.
We just took the bus from where we were staying (POP & boat from POFQ) to DTD and walked over, picked the car up in the morning and headed off to the shops. On the return we dropped it off at said hotel and got on their bus to whatever park we wanted to go to or went back to DTD.
This year we are staying at the Beach Club and getting the car from the Dolphin next door, we had thought of DTD again but Dolphin works better for us.
We always used Alamo.

thanks for the answers, any idea how much car hire costs, we are looking to hire for just a couple of days thanks x

Don't know costs without searching your dates but thought I would let you know you pay approx half the price by prebooking in the UK(or online with a UK company while in the US) compared to booking when you arrive.
I needed to extend our rental a due to the ashcloud a few years back, Dollar wanted over $100/day with all insurances (over $300 total) I booked online with Expedia then collected a few hours later for £90 total.

Definitely do it from the UK, if you don't know your dates and just want to wait until you get there, try and get on-line and book it rather than direct when your there it will be much cheaper.

We've picked up and dropped cars of at the alamo centre (get them to come and pick you up), the dolphin and a few places near DTD. I usually use usrentacar.co.uk you can see the places they use for rentals if you search through them.

I searched Alamo brits using the dates 1st-3rd april, for a 7 seater minivan the cost was £72. Does this include the relevant insurance? It states that the car comes with a full tank of fuel, do we just then return it with a full tank? :):confused3

Yes it includes all your insurance and you return full or prepay for a tank at the desk. On short rentals you are usually better trying to get a tank included, not all companies do it on short rentals now but odd one do, for example Virgin holidays would only charge you £12.15 to upgrade to gold(extra drivers & tank of fuel) but they are a few £ more to start with at £96.
Unfortunately I leave for the airport soon so don't have time to look for best deal, maybe it is the Brits deal but there might be a slightly better one out there.
A tank of gas on a 7 seater could cost around $70(£45) so always worth getting included if the price is right.
