Car Hire woes........

Thought I would post and moan a bit about my car hire......

We have our car hire with Autos Abroad, and have taken the full package....extra drivers, fuel etc. We paid for the car hire with a cheque, and before we booked it I phoned Dollar in Orlando to ask about credit cards and picking up rental car - we won't be using our credit card as its at the limit. The very freindly girl told us if we had a pre-paid voucher that included fuel and extra drivers, we wouldn't need a credit card. Great!!!

Then, my DH phoned autos abroad to find out if they had received the cheque - no confirmation from them as yet, and the guy on the phone was not very helpful. Asked him why we had paid by cheque and not credit card, why he coudn't use it etc etc. My husband got a bit mad and asked for his name - the guy then gave him a false name........(we know this because I phoned back a couple of minutes after it and asked for that guy and the girl said there was noone who worked there with that name...then she suddenly told me he was on a tea break)
Anyway we were told that evening that we must take a credit card otherwise we would not be allowed to get the car!!!

The confirmation came through with Hire For Less printed on it
and I e-mailed Dollar to ask them again about the pre-paid voucher and credit card - the reply said that Dollar do not accept vouchers from Hire For Lower. ......... I was now fizzing.........
I phoned Dollar desk at MCO and spoke to Mindy......who confirmed it.

So I phoned Autos Abroad....or is that Hire For Lower.....and was told that the voucher would be a Car Shop voucher.......

I phoned Dollar at MCO again and asked her about the Car Shop voucher - she said that was fine.......phew......I also asked again about the credit card, and she confrimed what the first girl told me last week - if you have a pre-paid gold/paltinum voucher you don't need a credit card...........

What is it with Autos Abroad.......Hire for Lower.......Car Shop.......,,make up your mind please........



Sorry for going on.....needed to get it off my chest.....never mind one look at the Castle and I'll forget it all.....

Sounds like you had a real panic on your hands - I hope everything works out great in the end.
I'm glad you put this thread up though as we're taking car hire direct with Dollar and have the platinum package so we won't have to leave a credit card copy.

I thought that if you didnt leave a copy of your CC that you HAD to leave a bond or something like that to cover the excess on the car. I know this is the case with Alamo even if you have "the max" which has everything pre paid. It might be worth asking Dollar if they can send or fax their policy on this so that you have something official when you get there "just in case"
