Car hire question

We've booked a 7 seater from Budget. It was done through cartrawler a couple of months ago. Its paid in full but the email I received to confirm states that if we wish to cancel they charge a $25 fee.
My query is: we booked a 7 seater for 5 adults and a toddler in a car seat. Now my sisters OH is coming which makes it 6 adults and DS. We are travelling with family who have said they will take some of our luggage with them to make the fit less tight but now I'm wondering should I just cancel the car hire and pay the fee and book an 8 seater through Alamo (as I dont think Budget have 8 seaters) or should we just leave it as it is? The issue is that everyone is paid up and if I booked the 8 seater I'll have to ask for more money which I would really prefer not to do.

Can you leave it as it is and re evaluate when you collect the car?
I'm sure they won't refuse your offer to hire a bigger car should you feel it's necessary ;)

Just read your comment about Budget possibly not having 8 seaters........Maybe send them an e-mail?

I wouldn't want to put 6 adults plus a car seat in any of the 7 seaters we have had for a long journey. Short journeys would be cosy ;)

If you stick with the 7 seated I would put the car seat in the second row and have the 3 smallest adults at the back.

I did a quick search and an 8 seater is nearly double the 7 seater so you might be better with another small car.

We do 5 adults and a child in a 7 seater minivan, an extra adult would be a squeeze but I wouldn't pay the cost for an 8 seater unless I saw a very good deal, they are usually a lot more. Not ideal but I would put up with it.

You say you booked with Cartrawler? I thought they were a wholesaler only, Dollar.co.uk used to supply thru them.
If its a $25 fee have you booked in $'s? usually an expensive way to book unless its just the cancellation fee in $'s?
If you give details of dates & cost you paid I will look around for 7 & 8 seaters see how they compare.

I myself would stick with the 7 seater as I found the 8 seater to be a tighter squeeze getting in and out. We had a 7 seater at christmas for 2 weeks of our trip we had 2 infants and 5 adults and fit just fine.

Thanks a million for the replies. I'm thinking maybe I'm best to stick with what we have.
Wayne I booked our villa through the TA Tour America. When I completed the booking it offered me car hire at a reduced rate (on their website) so I booked. The email says it was booked through cartrawler so I'm not sure but I can access my booking directly with the Budget website. Our dates are May 4th - 21st and the price I paid was $800. No GPS hire or any fancy extras, just the basic package. It converted to the equilivant of 626 euro at the time which I thought was good compared to other prices I had found.

$800 = £526 at todays rate.
7 seater for those dates to book now would be £368 but not sure how you stand booking from Ireland or getting Quidco
8 seater £712 so just about double the cost for 1 extra seat.

Thanks Wayne :goodvibes Quidco isn't an option for us unfortunately but I'm definitely feeling like I should have shopped round a bit more for car hire! Oh well, we live we learn lol! No use crying over spilled milk ;) Main thing is we're going....in 38 days!!! :)
