I was just wondering with the proliferation of car hire excess companies around now to cover you when hiring abroad, when are they needed? For instance the car I was thinking about includes
Additonal Liability Insurance.
Airport Service Charge.
Collision Damage Waiver and theft protection with No Excess To Pay.
Location Service Charge.
Local Tax.
Third Party Liability.
Unlimited Mileage.

So do I need one of the excess policies? Am I missing something?

Mainly required for European rentals where don't get a comprehensive cover as you do in the States.
Or it is possible to rent without all inclusive cover (often with a package holiday) then you need additional cover.

Rent thru a UK agent with all inclusive cover and you have all you need.

If you book your car through a separate car hire co then

all of your insurance cover & Tax should be included in the Quote

no matter what car supplier you collect the car from.
