We're going at the end of July for 4 weeks. Usually we get a minivan, as despite there only being the four of us, we usually have a lot of luggage and like the space. This year, I thought about getting something a bit different, like an SUV. I've looked into them, and love the idea of a 4x4 (4 wheel drive), especially since last year when we got stuck in the sand on Daytona beach. However, I'm not convinced the SUVs listed are actually 4x4s, as all the big manufacturers like Jeep, have their lowest cost cars in each range as 4x2s (2 wheel drive)....

So, any ideas for the best rate to get a minivan at that time of year?

Or

... any thoughts about SUVs as to whether or not they are indeed 4 wheel drives, or whether they are actually just 2 wheel drive cars which look like 4 wheel drive... I'm sure I could have worded that better!

Cheers.

Matt

Any ideas folks as to where the best deals are to be had for a minivan this summer? Or any thoughts about the SUVs?

TIA
Matt

I am sure Wayne will be along to help if there are any good deals at the moment :goodvibes

Otherwise try:
Netflights
USRentacar

There is also a Alamo/Brits Guide deal but I can't find that at the moment.

I also found that if you want to use Dollar that they were cheaper direct earlier in the year than going through a third party.

We have had Grand Cherokees in the past and I am sure that they have all be 4 wheel drive. They are a standard SUV with Dollar. Don't know about other rental companies though.

I would guess the intermediate SUV with Dollar may be 2 wheel drive as it is a Jeep Liberty which is what I drive here and that can be 2 or 4 wheel drive and not much luggage room.

Thanks for that Elise.
I'm hoping you're right about the SUVs, but having had a look at some of the manufactures websites, surprisingly, even the big SUVs are available in 2wheel drive format. So its a bit of an unknown. Thanks for those links, will have a look. And yes, had already hoped Wayne would make am aappearance, as he seems to have a good knowledge of the better deals out there.
Cheers, Matt.

Have you looked at virgin holidays as they allow you to book car hire without a holiday. We are looking at an SUV with them through Alamo and it is a good price. In fact for us it will be £308 for an all in price for 10 days:cool1:

We have had SUVs intermediate in the past and they have been fine for 3 or 4 suitcases in the back and 4 people with enough room.

Thanks jtlover! No, haven't looked at Virgin so far.

Netflights seem to be coming out the cheapest so far at £622 for 28 nights for an intermediate SUV. Or a standard SUV with Thrifty via Florida Car Hire for £796.
Was hoping to utilise Quidco, but dont seem able to come up with anything that competitive.

The Thrifty/Netflights deal seems best around. Same car with Alamo/Brit deal is £830
Netflights give 5% with Quidco so that would bring £622 down £31.10 to £590.90. Can't see you beating that for 4 weeks rental, just spent about 20 mins looking and I can't do any better.

Thanks Wayne! That's good enough for me!
Hadn't noticed netflights on the quidco website, another good saving there.
Thanks again!
