Car Hire from Alamo - credit card swipe

Hi

We have prepaid for our car hire from Alamo but know that when we get there they will need to take a swipe of a credit card.

My question is - how much available credit do you need to have on the card? Also, will it stop us using the card for anything while we are there?

if you have prepaid, the amount held against your credit card will be equal to the estimated charges + 20%

"estimated charges" are what's left to be paid locally for any options not prepaid for (fuel, child seat, satnav, and so on)


these funds will not be available for you to use

Thank you. So if I've not got sat nav, no car seat and take the car back filled with fuel that's not likely to be to much? Somebody told me they swiped $1500 and I just wanted to check??

Just reigniting this thread as I am still confused (doesn't take a lot) and as we go in 2 weeks I want to be sure.

If I have paid for everything to do with the hire car before I leave - I have to car seat, sat nav etc and have prepaid taxes and insurance - what amount of credit needs to be available on my card when they swipe it?
