Major paranoia is starting to kick in so thought I would check something with you good folk!

I recently moved house and haven't yet got around to changing the details on my driving licence. The car hire booking I have will require an address and a cc imprint - the address for the cc is my new one. Is there likely to be any problem with the two being different or am I being stupid?

I just don't fancy sending my licence off to Swansea and maybe not getting it back in time!

It's one of those " you just can't be sure " scenarios. Give DVLA a call and see what the turn-around time is. They are usually less than 14 days. When do you go?

4 June - I wouldn't even want to risk it. I can't imagine it being a problem - the booking is made and it's a valid cc so I was hoping for some comfort from my cool DIS buddies who would re-assure me!! :rotfl:

I'll maybe give the car hire people a phone and see what they say!

HI, probably can't be a lot of help but I book people ALL the time where one person is supplying the CC imprint whilst another one is the driver so I can't see it being a major prob although as you said probably better to give the car hire co a ring, Your passport photo matches your drivers licence and the name on your cc so it shouldn't be too much of a prob

Yeah, contact the hire company direct, and, if you want to be really sure, ask them to put it in writing just to give you piece of mind if you are that concerned. Otherwise, you could even make a trip to Swansea! I believe the process is a lot quicker if you got to the DVLA office yourself. Long trip for you though, and probably not needed.

It was over 3 years before I changed the address on my licence. I only did it then because it was more sellotape than paper. :flower:

It was never a problem hiring a car anywhere in the US. :goodvibes

My address on my driving licence is about 5 yrs out of date (although it is my parents address) - slap my wrists. Never had a problem in that time hiring in US.

They only take an imprint of your credit card as security - they don't actually check any of the details.

My husband has the old style licence without the photo card. Is the photocard necessary for car hire? Getting a bit worried now!

Absolutely not. The old-style licence is perfectly valid for car hire in US.

However, a phote licence is a handy photo ID without having to carry a passport. Also, if you are using a photo licence, you are supposed to produce both parts for car hire.

Don't think the guy at the airport even looked at my driving license - never mind matched it up with my booking ref...... ;-)

Same here. Never asked for the paper part of my photo licence.

Just as well really as I had left it in the filing cabinet at home :)
