car excise tax and doing taxes

we can write off our auto excise yearly tax here. i bought a new car in 2009 so i paid excise tax on the old car in the beginning of 2009. I got the excise bill in december for for the new car and I just paid it. do i still include the amount of the new car's excise tax for 2009 on my taxes even thought i just paid it yesterday (2010) and not in december 2009?
