Car ental from Priceline or Hotwire with American Express

Has anyone used AmEx to pay for a car through Hotwire or Priceline? Do you know if AmEx will still cover your car insurance if you pay that way?

If you have their extended rental car insurance coverage (for $20 per rental or so), they will cover if you rent through Priceline, but you must call them and ask them to extend the coverage. Their system is not equipped to pick up rentals booked through a Priceline Name Your Own deal.

Don't make my mistake. I just rented on hotwire with my amex card. I always
make the reservations -- my husband does the driving.

When I called amex to find out what our insurance coverage was I was told that
since the reservation was put on my card not my husband's, same account but different numbers, I was considered the primary driver as far as insurance goes. As I understand it we will now have to add him ($65) for him to be covered.

I wish I could go back and change the charge with hotwire but as I understand
it everything is final. So just a heads up to you. Marie

Thanks for that info! I am nervous about Hotwire and Priceline, but if I can't find anything cheaper than what I have now, I may have to give it a try.

I had a reservation with Dollar for a minivan for over $500 for 9 days. Hotwire

was able to give me the same rental with Hertz for about $300. I was very

happy with the savings. Marie
