I just purchased a new CD player/radio for my car to replace the el-cheapo one that I had in there that stopped working. (el-cheapo one replaced a fairly nice one which was stolen back in sept.)
I got all the wires connected on the wiring harness, and then plugged it in. Motor whirrs a little. I turn on the car, push the reset button on the CD player, and put the faceplate on. No LCD panel, nothing. Try putting in a CD. CD player happily accepts it (motor-assisted load, so I know it's getting power). No sound, no LCD panel. Try pressing/holding on/off button for several seconds, no sound, no LCD panel. Eject CD ... it slides out, again assisted by the internal motor.
I'm thinking that I probably have a bad unit, as the unit is clearly getting power, yet not actually turning on or playing music.
Any other thoughts? Or do I get to spend my morning tomorrow taking it to Circuit City*to see if they can figure out what's wrong?
* - (I would've taken them up on their free install offer, but they wanted my car for 7 hours to do it, and I didn't feel like giving it up for that long)
(Edit to add: I should also mention that I did the wiring for the el-cheapo cd player with no problems, and it worked fine ... until it died, but that was most likely an internal death, not wiring)
