In response to the recent discussion on car top carriers, I thought I'd see what everyone thought was the best way to go as far as hard or soft. We had a hard top for years and were pleased with it, but with our new soft carrier, we'll never go back to a hard top. The soft carrier was easier to pack as it "gave" a little. We were able to pack it full and still shove little things in as well. Even without a luggage rack, I felt like the soft carrier fit better on our van. I think the best advantage to it is when we got to our destination we could unload it and just fold it up and pack it away. It took up about as much room as sleeping bag!
