Has anyone gotten anything from the Car Care Center before? My boyfriend and I are going to WDW for the first time in June for a week. We don't have too much extra money for a rental car but we will need to go to the grocery store at least once in the trip. Does anyone know how much the cars rent for at the Car Care Center and what their regulations are? We are 21, and some rental companies require an older age to rent cars. I think I heard that some transportation from the airport include a grocery stop at no extra charge? I am trying to compare the prices of paying extra for the airport transportation, to use a cab, or to rent a car for a day?

any ideas?

thanks everyone in advance.

The car care center is run by Alamo (& maybe National too, they are the same company). Check online to see their age restrictions. I think they charge you extra on your card, but only as a deposit, you get it back. If you reserve in advance a 1-day rental could be as low as 22$. If you walk in it will be more like 40$. Look at weekend specials too, sometimes those are cheaper.

Where are you staying and what items do you need? There are two Hess gas stations with convenience stores at them that you might be able to get your supplies from without going off property.

We are either staying at Pop or an All Star. We haven't decided yet. We pretty much need bottled water, a few food items we can't bring from home (butter, milk, etc) and beer. :rotfl: I heard there is a van or a bus or something that will bring you to the property from the airport that stops at a grocery store for free but i dont know what it is or how much it is. Where are these gas stations? I didn't know there were any on property

thanks,
M & C

All of the things you mentioned (and more) will be available in your resort's gift shop or food court. They won't be as cheap as they would be at a Publix, but they're not outrageous, either. Any savings you might have would be eaten up by the cost of the rental car or town car.

that is very true. Hopefully these in-property gas stations pull through. Does anyone have the prices of food, etc in the gift shops or food courts?

Yes, all those items are available at your resort. A six pack of beer, I think is about $12. The Hess stations probably are not going to be the best for you. There's one at the entrance to the Boardwalk and one across the street from Downtown Disney. They'd probably be cheaper but not at the expense of having to lug the stuff back to your resort. If you spend more than $10 because you are buying from Disney, it's well worth it to buy from your resort.

BTW - it's cheaper to get the beer from the gift shop than it is to get from the food court. Even in singles.

Wow! Thanks a lot, that was a whole lot of help. That is exactly what I needed to know! :thumbsup2

We generally make a stop at the Hess Station across from DTD the first or second night of our trip. It is directly across the street from the Pleasure Island bus stops and there is a very reliable crosswalk there with lights. (Pleasure Island Cast Members have a parking lot behind the Hess Station).

Coke product 12-packs are usually 2 for $5 or 2 for $6. Beer is normal prices, water was $3 for a 12-pack. It wasn't hard at all for 3 of us to haul the stuff back.

hey, thanks. We'll probably run by the Hess station the first night or so and toward the end of the trip if we have money to spare, we'll just get it from the resort.

thanks!

This is not true. The under 25 fee is $25 per day and you do not get that back. Rentals are generally cheaper on the weekend. Renting for one day during the week will generally be a lot higher.

One bottle of beer at the food court in POFQ was $6.50 so don't buy it there.

When we're down there and haven't made the food stop from the Amtrak station, we take the bus from our resort to the DTd bus stop and make the walk to Goodings. Others are going to say the prices are outrageous but for us, its still cheaper than renting a car or doing a cab. we get beer, wine, snacks and lunch meats and buns for our pool lunches. Its about a mile walk, not that bad in the evenings, well lit blvd. and not hard to find. Wife and I have lugged the items back and laughed the whole way, no big deal. To aid in this, empty a small rolling duffle bag and take it with you to roll your items back, alittle easier. We've never had any problem getting on the bus back to our resort with our items and we felt the prices were fairly reasonable for what we bought compared to buying on property.

Another 2 cents!

DH and I our in the same boat! We are both 24 and are under the rental guidelines. We could rent a car and then pay the extra $25 a day to rent but it doesn't make sense for just 1 grocery stop.
Here is our plan:
*Arrive from the airport via magical express (our flight arrives at 5:00) (free- included in the price of our room)
*Check in
*Drop off carry-ons in room
*head back and catch a cab to grocery store (haven't really decided but it will probably be superwalmart- we know it is a little rough but we
don't care)
* then take a cab back to our hotel and hopefully our bags will be there and we can be unpacked

We don't have to worry about finding parking places, insurance or anything else.

We will also ship a small box down with cereal, plastic silverware and bowls, and snacks for the trip.

If I remeber I will let you know how it went and what we spent on taxi. Right now we are staying at Pop but that could change.

Another option to check out is gardengrocer.com, they bring your grocery order to your hotel for you. You can pick out what you want and they charge a small delivery fee, plus tip, and the cost of the groceries, of course.

do they not have beer or wine? i could not find it. Other than that, this site seems great.

As far as I know if you call them they will get you beer and wine.GardenGrocer worked the best for me. My family is a munchie kind of people..around 12-1 am we get hungry!! They will send you anything you need!

Does anyone know what kind of food they have at the Hess stations? Orange juice, fruit, snacks? Thank you!
