Car advice- update post 35

Here is an update
I can take a replacement car, same year and model Dodge Charger 2011 but all they have left is Toxic Orange. It will cost me about 1500 in tax title registration and fees, but the car is new with no miles, mine has almost 13K. I can't live with orange. I realize this is a petty complaint, but I can't do orange. It makes me want to vomit. If they had pretty much any other color, I feel that this would be a fair deal.

I can take a Dodge Challenger, same year 2011, new no

Take this option, get them to paint it for free. Or have them find one in a different color from another dealership and give you the same deal.

They are trying to convince me that orange is the coolest color and looks great. I would be ok with ANY other color. I am leaning towards the Challenger. Its grey and 2 seats but new and not orange.

Sell it back to the dealer and buy a Toyota or Honda. Just my humble opinion.

This. Or a Kia.

And IMO, orange *is* a totally cool car color, especially for a Charger. It truly is the hot color right now.

You could call around to other dealers and see if they have the car in a color that you want. When you find one, call the owner of the dealer that you got yours at and ask him to "dealer trade" an orange one for the one that you want.

I would take the orange one

ps: I just bought an orange car and I honestly never in my life thought i would!!

They let me take it home, I would suggest doing this, when I woke up in the morning and looked out the window that orange car sitting in my driveway with the sunshing on it looked sooo pretty!! I called my DH and told him I loved it!

It's a retro car and orange fits perfectly. My parents had an orange Plymouth Roadrunner during the same general time the Charger was big.

I would take the orange charger. I wouldn't take the Challenger b/c I would hate a two-door car. Definitely would not take the Cruze, do the trade-in or persist in being such a nuisance that they offered something else.

I liked the Charger cuz its bigger and a smooth ride, but no one ever sits in my backseat. I use it for groceries on occasion, but we have no kids at the moment. This will prob change in the next few years though. I do find orange repulsive, I asked if he could try to dig up any other color. ANY other color. He is going to get back to me tomorrow. I am happy that they are going to help me now though. I feel so relieved. Even if I get stuck with orange, at least I will feel like it was fair and they tried.

Make sure the value of what they give you, options and all, equals at least what you paid for the original car, less the required mileage fee. (if that is how your state's law is written) They might puff out their chests and tell you what a great deal you're getting, but if the numbers don't support it, they are getting off easy.

Yes, and not a good one. I decided to take the even trade for the Challenger that was offered. They had two of them, identical, both the ugly gray color. I told him I didn't like the orange Charger because of the color.

Suddenly both gray Challengers have been sold. They have been on the lot for over 6 months, I find it hard to believe they both sold in the last two days. And the orange Charger is stripped, no options. He has offered me some 2012s with my lemon as a trade in, but I do not want to take a loss.

The owner is now trying to parlay this into a sales opportunity I fear, and I am letting him haggle over all the numbers right now. I gave him several to work out and in the end I am probably going to end up with the ugly orange Charger no one else wants. I am currently waiting for him to get back to me on the numbers. Then I will tell him I am going to take the ugly orange Charger just to spite us all. ugh. I hate this man. I am hoping I am wrong and he will work something out.

I am really hoping the numbers come back good and I can get the other car. It is a Chevy and I feel safer with that than the Dodge.

Walk out in the driveway to go to work. Where's the car? Oh, it's in the shop, now how do I get to work?

Sounds pretty unreliable to me in 5 months.

I am use to doing routine maintenance every 4 years or so. Even my Ford throws me for a loop with having normal routine maintenance needing done in a quarter of the time than I am use to with my old Toyotas. When a car needs a full brake job every 2 years, I call that unreliable. Also, when a vehicle needs to go to the shop 4 times in 5 months (nearly once a month), I call that unreliable.

Dodge is famous for brake and transmission issues. I would trade it in and look to another automaker.

They keep giving it back to me saying it is fixed, then the check engine light comes back on. They finally admitted there is an emissions leak, and I quote "it must be small because we can't find it". So they can't fix it. So it is still got an issue.

When the car won't unlock and I CANT GET IN IT, I am stranded. I have no way to get to work. Also when the ignition button would not work I COULD NOT GET TO WORK. Which part is confusing to you? I also feel like I must point out that they have put over 400 miles on it trying to get the check engine light to go back on.

They did give me a loaner car for the last 2 days, it was a Chevy Malibu 2007. It smells of feet and cigarette smoke, so I drove with the windows open and got an air freshener. I left the windows open over night to air it out that helped a little bit. It shakes when you hit 70mph and it takes at least two tries to get it to start, again leaving me nervous in the am that it won't and I might not get to work. I drive an hour and 15 minutes each way to work. I asked for a different loaner and they said thay is the "nicest" one they had. They said if I get stuck to call them. They aren't open at 4am when I drive to work.

Not to sound like a smart-you-know-what, but is the remote entry the ONLY way to unlock the car? My car only has a key entry point on the driver's door and the rear hatch, but there is a way to get into the car without the remote. I can't imagine that any automaker would design a car that you couldn't use a key to get into in case the battery died, but if Dodge has done this, that's yet another reason to ditch the Dodge and find something else.
