Thursday evening sounds good to me... I'll tally Friday morning and make appropriate announcements/edits then.

Actually this makes me wonder... rather than simply going "____ days from now" would everyone prefer we have set days for posting/captioning/voting?

that sounds more easily trackable. (is that a word?)

I was wondering if you could edit the OP title to say "voting" mon-thurs and maybe "New photo" on fridays? Maybe "new photo-post 37, page 3" so people can go straight to it.

How about we let the winner each week handle the vote counting.

and the same timeline each week. post the pic friday, close entries monday night and voting until thursday about 6pm. then pm the new winner
when the new winner has a pic chosen PM Uncle Servo to add the page and post number of the new contest pic to the original title.

what do you think?

I'd really prefer to handle the vote tallying myself... even though that does put this game at risk for situations like I had this weekend where I was tied up all day Friday (though I had this thread up all day) and was out of town -- or at least out of the house -- until now. I do apologize for that by the way.

But it would indeed seem like it's Java's turn to upload a picture. I'll edit the original post to add that and the new format. Nice job of picking up the ball I fumbled there.

Well, here's how it should work...

• SATURDAY-MONDAY (morning): The winner of the previous round has until noon (Eastern Standard Time) to post a new image.
• MONDAY (afternoon) - WEDNESDAY: Captions are submitted
• THURSDAY - FRIDAY: Votes are cast
• FRIDAY (afternoon/evening): Winner is declared. Lather, rinse, repeat.

But that only works if the person who won the previous round (in this case, java) checks the thread... and more importantly, posts an image of their own...

I dunno... this seemed like a good idea at the time, and while I've certainly enjoyed it thus far it may be a case of not enough participation to keep it going. Or maybe trying to go 'soup-to-nuts' in one week isn't the answer (perhaps a two-week window -- one week to do captions and the other to vote/get a new one up)?

I'm certainly open to suggestions. I still think it's a fun game but the format may not work like it does elsewhere. Y'all's thoughts?

Personally, I like the 1 week time frame. Alot of times when a contest goes into multiple weeks it gets buried.
This is a cute contest and I hope that those that don't participate will at least help by voting!

Java must be busy. I sent a PM last thursday or friday and he/she replied that they had a great pic in mind. And was also very excited for winning.

I had fun and would like to see the game continue.

Well plus it's still kinda new and hasn't had a lot of opportunity for word-of-mouth to get built up quite yet...

But hey if the single-week format works I'm not going to argue.

Let's give java until day's end to post the picture since he/she knows about it already... if not then we'll go with a 'plan B' and get things back on track...

Alright then, time for plan B... looks like DISUNC and #1hockeymom are tied for second place with 1 vote each. But something I should have noticed from the get-go is that none of the three who received votes cast any votes themselves!

As per the rules in the original post, then, there unfortunately cannot be a winner this time around.

Therefore I'm declaring this to be a 'jump ball' -- whoever wants to post an image may do so, and we'll just caption the first image to be posted until next Wednesday (regular weekly time for voting).

I'll check in before I go home this afternoon; if nobody's posted an image I'll dig one up myself.
