I was just checking out some of the menus at WDW, making a game plan for our dining. I have a few months before I can make our reservations. We'll be staying at the BC and I was checking out the menu for Capt Grill. It looks like a good menu. I don't hear much about it on the message board (some times I think that Ohana is the only restaurant at WDW). I would love some feedback (so to speak).

DH & I ate there for the first time in October based on some positive reviews I read on DisBoards. The service was great but our food was just bad. We each had a different steak - neither was cooked to order, both were very tough. I ordered a steak that was marinated in bourbon something for 24 hours but still had no flavor and it was tiny, about half the size of DH's steak. I don't know if the chef had a really really off night or what but we didn't enjoy our meal there at all.

We were at the YC Thanksgiving week. We ate dinner and 2 breakfasts there. All 3 meals were very good. Dinner- 4 of the adults had steak. Tasted great, sil had crab legs-very good and the little guys enjoyed their kids meal as well.
We had no problems with the quality of the food and the service was excellent.

We are at BCV for NYE and are dining at Captains for the first time. Mostly because it was available for 9 of us and right in our hotel-and we are going to EPCOT that night. Have never eaten there either-just assuming OK food, nice atmosphere and super close/convenient.

you likely do not hear much about it because it is "just" a restaurant... a slightly out of the way (unless you are at YC/BC) restaurant w/no fancy theming, no dancing, no characters, no special menu...

that being said, we ate there a few times in '08 when we stayed at BC and enjoyed it for what it was... good food, in a nice setting, convenient to our room... would i travel far and wide for it, no... would i eat there again should i find myself in the neighborhood, for sure!

my son had the prime rib by which he now compares all others at Captain's Grille... and i distinctly recall some awesome poached eggs as well! :)

We ate there in Aug 2010. It was wonderful. I had chicken with cousous. My entire family aging from 13 to 70 enjoyed the meal so much we changed our dining reservations so we could go a second time. Second time around it was just as good. I will go there again this August at least twice.

We always have breakfast there when we're staying in the Epcot resort area - it's one of those "best kept secrets" that we enjoy. You can get a very good buffet breakfast OR order from a menu for a relatively reasonable price and have a meal that's quiet and pretty efficient thanks to the absence of characters.

We first ate there a few years ago (2007? when it was still called Yacht Club Galley) - we had put out the card the night before for room service but it didn't arrive, so the manager* told us they could make up our order then or we could come down to the restaurant and have breakfast there - either way it would be comped. We chose to go down to eat since we were ready to go at that point and they took very good care of us. It's always a pleasure to go back and that manager even remembers us as "the family with the Mickey tie dye shirts." :)

*I'm not sure of his role - he acted like the manager, but I've also seen him overseeing things at Beaches & Cream...he could be an area assistant manager or something? I'm not sure - his name is Ray. Or Roy. ;)

Here is the section about the Captain's Grille from my July 2010 trip report. Mostly pictures.

This was about all we had time to do in EPCOT for the evening- we had dinner reservations at the Captain’s Grille at the Yacht club at 6:00 PM. It was our first time eating here and the perfect place for our arrival dinner. It was quiet (not crowded), close to our resort and it was great being waited on. Last year our arrival dinner was the Cape May Café, and although the food was great and we were even closer to our Beach Club room, the restaurant was chaotic and we were way too tired from our long day of travel and play in the parks to deal with the buffet lines.

We had a great meal! Here are some photos. I had the snow crab legs, Mark had the Grilled Rib Eye, Nate had the NY Strip steak, of course and Ben had what he said were the best chicken nuggets ever! He made this declaration about the best chicken nuggets several times on the trip. The desserts were probably the least impressive part of meal.

We dined there for the first time this Aug. for lunch. We loved it! The food was very good and so was the service. I had the Lobster Roll and it was excellent! Lots of lobster on it. We were staying at the YC, so we tried it out. I would definitely go there again. We have not tried dinner yet, so one of our next trips we will give dinner a try.

Encouraging replies. Not to hijack but I think it looks it very nice from the internet pic anyway. Sounds quiet and relaxing, and just being waited on will beat most choices NYE. I suspect they may have a NYE menu so we will check that out first, but thanks for the review above.

I ate there for lunch on Dec. 3rd and was very pleased with the meal. The turkey sandwich was huge and well prepared. My mother had the lobster roll and was impressed, she is from New England and commented that it was one of the best she has had. The crab cakes were the best of 4 different restaurants that my mother and best friend ordered them at while we were there. Fish and chips were the 3rd entree and it was enough for several people, very crispy yet the fish was tender and tasty.
Desserts were very good - key lime tart, apple tart tatin and double chocolate cheesecake.
We went for lunch while at DHS, the boat ride was nice and relaxing to the yacht club and back.
It will be on our list of restaurants to return to on our next trip.

We ate there 3 times in the last week. Twice we had the breakfast buffet. The selection was good and drinks are included with the buffet. Once we had dinner there just on Friday night. Both of us got the 12oz NY strip steak. The steaks were cooked correctly, awesome cheesy potatos with carrots that night. I did need to add salt to the steak as the flavor was so-so but better with the salt. (PS I rarely add salt to my food.) We would eat there again but probably wouldn't make a special trip for it. We were staying at the Yacht Club so it was convenient.

We go there for lunch from time to time. The first time I tried the lobster roll I fell in love. Last time the lobster was more fishy than sweet, and the roll wasn't as good.

Another thing I order there is the soup/sandwich combo, with clam chowder and shrimp salad. Very good. I hope you enjoy it.

:)

Oops..I thought you meant Cali Grill...

We had dinner at Capts Grill once and it was excellent, the food and service were just perfect.

Would not hesitate to eat there again if we were staying in that area

Be careful! Most of the parks (especially EPCOT) fill to capacity very early in the day on NYE. You might leave the park for dinner and find that you can't get back in. Most people book dinner at the park they will be in for most major holidays.

That being said, we really enjoyed the Captain’s Grill on our last trip. It was the first time we had every tried it. I had the lobster roll too. It was very good. And the key lime dessert was excellent.
